Samsung Galaxy S III Coming to Five U.S. Carriers Starting In June

Late last night Samsung finally announced what many in the Android-loving community have been waiting for: carriers, pricing and availability dates for the Galaxy SIII. Well, wonder no more because the flagship smartphone will launch on Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile starting in June.

“The U.S. launch of the Galaxy S III is the most anticipated launch of the year. As promised, we are delivering the ‘next big thing’ for U.S. customers and across all major carriers,” president of Samsung America Dale Sohn said in a statement. “Galaxy S III introduces new technological innovation and takes sharing to the next level.”

For Verizon, preorder availability will begin on June 6th with the device priced at $199.99 for the 16GB model. The 32GB model will cost $249.99 with a two-year contract, and both models will be available in either white or blue. T-Mobile confirmed that it will launch its version of the Galaxy S III on June 21 but no pricing was given.

Sprint will offer the device starting on June 21st, with preorders beginning Tuesday, June 5th. It will come in two versions, a 16GB model for $199.99 and a 32GB model for $249.99. Sprint is also the only U.S. carrier to preload Google Wallet on the device.

Nothing from AT&T yet but we expect that announcement to come soon. In the meantime, Samsung’s full press release is after the break.

E3 2012: ‘Of Orcs and Men’ Announcement Trailer

Most fantasy action games follow a set formula. Players begin the game as a human or occasionally elf hero who must fight through hordes of orcs, goblins and trolls to save the day and bring piece back to the land. But what if things were different? What if it wasn’t the orcs who were the menaces but the humans of this far off world who were cruel and evil? Of Orcs and Men looks to answer that question.

In Of Orcs and Men, players are tasked with a suicide mission as a warrior in the orc army to assassinate the emperor of the land that has been oppressing them and caused war between the greenskinned races and the humans. This game looks to have a not so subtle message of not judging a book by its cover as the traditional gaming convention of orcs being villains gets turned on its head and given the opportunity to show just how bad humans as a race have the potential to be.

Of Orcs and Men is set for a September release for PC, XBox 360 and PlayStation 3. Check out the full announcement trailer after the break.

Starz’s ‘Spartacus’ to End After Next Season

Even though the Starz series Spartacus seemed to rebound after the death of star Andy Whitfield, for us at least it was never really the same. Now word comes from Starz and the show’s creative team that the upcoming third season of Spartacus, which will be titled War of the Damned, will be the last.

“It was an extremely difficult and emotional decision for my partners and I,” series creator/executive producer Steven S. DeKnight said. “Yet, in the end, the story was best served by rolling all of the remaining action and drama of Spartacus’ journey into one stunningly epic season that will be extremely satisfying for everyone who’s been along for the ride.”

“Spartacus is a landmark series for the network which has enthralled millions of viewers and fans around the world,” Starz CEO Chris Albrecht said. “We are in agreement with our partners in the decision to conclude the story after War of the Damned, as we believe it is the best way to maintain the integrity of the series and secure its legacy.”

E3 2012: ‘Doom 3: BFG Edition’ Announcement Trailer

Hearing that id software would be bringing Doom to E3, most any gamer would expect it would be time for Doom 4, the next iteration of the series to make its way to PCs and consoles. Instead, the now Bethesda Softworks published Doom is in fact a next gen console remake of the classic, Doom 3.

In addition to a graphic overhaul, the BFG edition will also include full 3D & HMD support, the expansion pack Resurrection of Evil, a new mission pack known as The Lost Mission and both Doom and Doom 2. Also added to the Doom 3: BFG Edition is the ability for players to hold a flashlight and a weapon at the same time. This is probably one of the most frustrating mechanics of the original Doom 3 as it made the main character seem too clumsy to walk and chew bubblegum at the same time since he couldn’t hold a flashlight with one hand and a handgun in the other.

While it isn’t a new Doom, this release is probably an attempt to get Doom back in the minds of gamers for an upcoming Doom 4 announcement, probably within the next year. Doom 3: BFG Edition will be released later in 2012 to PC, XBox 360 and PlayStation 3. Check out the trailer below and stick with us for tons of new E3 trailers and announcements coming this week.

Box Office Report: ‘Snow White & The Huntsman’ Proves Context Is Everything

Hey you got some Lord of the Rings in my Snow White! The movie going crowd of the first weekend of June certainly didn’t mind that particular mash-up, as Snow White & The Huntsman came in at number 1. Bringing in over $56 Million, Snow White proved even fairer than expectations.

What is most interesting to me about the big three day haul for Snow White is that total is not all that much more than Men in Black III did in the first three days of its run. Yet because of expectations, and a healthy dose of public skepticism, Men in Black seems like a mild under-performer, while Snow White represents a win for most involved. Context is key.

Speaking of the black clad men, the sequel did about $29 Million for its second weekend, holding on to second place from The Avengers who continues its strong run. The drop was less than 50%, which means word of mouth must be playing in the film’s favor.

Movie Review: ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’

I don’t know what the point of this movie is. at times, it’s great to look at, and has some clever visuals such as dipping Charlize Theron in ivory or having her vanish in a murder of crows…or ravens, which are probably the right birds, seeing as how her name is Ravenna.

She’s the wicked queen who seduces the widower king and kills him on their wedding night and needs to drain the essence of the king’s daughter Snow White (Kristen Stewart) to become immortal. Ravenna tosses Snowy in the clink, but she escapes and retreats into the Dark Forest, the one place where Ravenna’s powers are useless. So Ravenna sends the one guy who’s made it through the Dark Forest before, the titular Huntsman Eric (Chris Hemsworth) to retrieve Snow White. Eric’s hesitant, but Ravenna promises him that if he succeeds, she’ll bring his wife back to life — or kill him if he doesn’t.

Meanwhile one of Snow White’s childhood friends (Sam Claflin) goes undercover as an archer in Ravenna’s Dark Army, headed by her whispy brother Finn (Sam Spruell). They pop up sporadically to menace Snowy and provide plot points, respectively.

‘LEGO Lord of the Rings’ Debut Trailer Shows Off A LEGO Balrog

Ever since the dawn of LEGO games there has been a hole. A hole in the catalog, a hole in the very hearts of LEGO fans world-wide, and that hole was a lack of a LEGO Lord of the Rings game. Thankfully, all the legal red tape has been decimated and WB Games and Traveler’s Tales look to fill that hole as soon as possible.

The debut trailer for the long-awaited game has hit and it promises a true to the movies experience. The LEGO games were long presented with out dialogue, but in 2012 the developers are breaking away from that tradition. LEGO Lord of the Rings seems to take full use of dialogue from the films, while retaining that LEGO playfulness.

Of course this trailer also shows off a couple really exciting LEGO interpretations. First we get to see the Balrog in all of his LEGO goodness, and he comes across very well in the form. We also see most of the Fellowship in LEGO form, which includes the first ever LEGO Sean Bean.

At this point I want to buy about 30 copies of this game so I can play it daily and not worry about it wearing out. Hopefully those stupid high expectations, that I no doubt share with many of you, can be met by the developers.

Take a look at the debut trailer after the jump.

Windows 8 Final Preview Release Now Available

Even though people still cling to using older versions of Windows like XP and even, in some cases, Windows 2000 or are just getting used to the idea of Windows 7, Microsoft is moving forward with the next version of its desktop OS known as Windows 8. To help get you used to the idea of a new version of Windows, the company has this week unveiled Windows 8 Release Preview.

This version of Windows 8 is a “near-final” version for users to download and try before the OS is sent to Microsoft’s manufacturing partners. The Preview includes Internet Explorer 10, support for Adobe Flash and new Windows 8 apps for connecting to Hotmail, SkyDrive and Messenger.

“Since our first preview release last September, millions of people now use the pre-release product on a daily basis and millions more have been taking it through its paces, totaling hundreds of millions of hours of testing,” the company said on its official blog. “We genuinely appreciate the effort that so many have put into pre-release testing, and of course, we appreciate the feedback too. Direct feedback and feedback through usage contributed to hundreds of visible changes in the product and tens of thousands of under-the-hood changes.”

Nice to hear Microsoft is responding to user requests and addressing their issues. The real question, though, is if those responses and the rest of the work that went into Windows 8 actually pay off in a usable and stable new OS. I guess we’ll find out soon enough as the OS is officially released in October.
