The Flickcast – Page 40 of 1030 – Stuff Nerds Love

The Flickcast Episode 275: Who You Gonna Call?

ghostbusters-ramis-1

Once again, it’s a brand new episode of The Flickcast. Don’t worry, we’re not counting them to make some kind of point. But if we were, we could tell you this is the fourth episode in a row for the new year. Again, not that we’re counting or trying to make a point.

On this week’s show, Chris and Joe talk about a whole slew of new and recurring topics . . . as usual. Some of these topics include the occasional humor of Saturday Night Live, the reboot of Ghostbusters featuring an all-female cast, the first Game of Thrones trailer, the talent and somewhat less talent of Kristen Wigg and Melissa McCarthy, making movies on an iPhone 5s, Chris Pratt as Indiana Jones and a whole lot more. As if that’s not enough already.

Picks this week are back to more of the usual with Chris’ pick of the movie John Wick, starring Keanu Reeves, and Joe’s pick of the new web browser called Vivaldi.

First Trailer for Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ Is Here

daredevil-netflix-1

You could say we’re a bit skeptical about this one. But you can’t really blame us. After all, the last time Daredevil appeared on a screen it wasn’t the best experience for fans, to say the least. Okay, the movie sucked.

However, that bad experience looks like it really will be in the past now that we’ve seen the first trailer for Netflix’s upcoming Daredevil series. In short, it looks pretty darn good.

Check it out after the break. Daredevil comes to Netflix on April 10 with all episodes of the series being released at the same time. There goes that weekend.

Get Your First Look at Marvel’s ‘Spider-Gwen’ #1

spider-gwen-cover-1-crop

Superheroes are more popular than ever on the big and small screen and in the pages of comics. But often the stories just feature a bunch of super-dudes running around doing super-dude things. Where are the super-women? Don’t worry, there’s at least one in the form of Marvel’s Spider-Gwen, who’s about to debut her own brand new solo series.

Here’s all the scoop from Marvel’s official press release:

“She’s Gwen Stacy. She’s smart, tough, and charming. She drums in a punk rock band and goes to high school just like you. Only she can lift a car and has spider powers! Just don’t tell her father, NYPD Police Chief George Stacy!

But you knew all that already! What you don’t know is Gwen is back home following the events of Spider-Verse and you won’t believe what she’s got waiting for her!

Now is your chance to get on board with the breakout character of the year as she makes her bombastic debut into her very own ongoing series.”

Check out the preview pages after the break. Look for Spider-Gwen #1, written by Jason Latour with art by Robbi Rodriguez, to arrive in comic book stores and via digital on February 25.

The Flickcast Episode 274: Battleworld!

battleworld-1

The trend for 2015 of uninterrupted weekly episodes continues with another brand new episode of The Flickcast. And no, we’re not counting them. But if we were, this would be three in a row for the new year. As we’ve said before, not bad. We’ll try to keep it going.

On this week’s show, Chris and Joe talk about a whole slew of new and recurring topics . . . as usual. Some of these include the merits of Yeoman Rand, the utility of Kilts, space tools, Simon Pegg co-writing the next Star Trek movie, new casting news for X-Men: Apocalypse and general X-Men movie continuity, the return of Arrow and The Flash, Disney not using George Lucas’ ideas for the next Star Wars movie, the end of the Marvel Universes and the creation of Battleworld! Yep, more.

Picks this week are a little different than usual. Instead of picking a movie, TV show, comic or piece of tech, both Chris and Joe encourage you to dig deep and contribute to an organization fighting diseases and conditions that affect children. If a Kickstarter featuring a card game with exploding kittens can get millions of dollars, don’t organizations like The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Make a Wish Foundation, the March of Dimes or the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital also deserve a couple of your hard-earned dollars? We think so.

First ‘Fantastic Four’ Trailer Arrives

fantastic-four-1

You knew it was bound to happen. After all, it’s been years since the last cinematic incarnation of Marvel’s Fantastic Four. You know, the one that featured Captain America‘s Chris Evans in his first Marvel superhero role: Johnny Storm aka The Human Torch.

Well, have no fear, there’s a new version of the Fantastic Four coming our way. In fact, the first teaser for it just dropped and we have to say, it looks pretty good. Sure, you could argue about some of the casting or story choices (especially certain family ties, or lack of) but that’s not really the point.

This is a movie based on a comic book series. It may not satisfy everyone, especially hard-core comics fans, but it might just be a good movie anyway.

We’ll find out when it hits theaters on August 7. Check it out after the break.

Check it Out: The ‘Vikings’ Season 3 Trailer Has Arrived

Vikings season 3

On Thursday, February 19, Vikings returns to the History Channel for a third season and it’s going to be a whopper. Until then, here’s a bit of info to help get you ready.

While awaiting the land he’s been promised by the English, Ragnar (Travis Fimmel), the “farmer who made himself a king,” turns his warriors towards the supposedly impenetrable city of Paris. Ever a warmonger, the new King can’t resist sieging the city and proving the strength and legend of his Norsemen. Family continues to play an important role for Ragnar, with his son Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) searching for his own place, his brother Rollo (Clive Standen) firmly at his side, and his former wife Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) now allied with him too.

Four new characters will join History’s hit scripted drama this season. Harbard (Kevin Durand), whose arrival has been dreamt of by Queen Aslaug, Siggy, and Helga, will turn up suddenly and have a profound effect on the three women. Kalf (Ben Robson) is Lagertha’s ambitious and perhaps duplicitous second in command. Emperor Charles of France (Lothaire Bluteau) will face off with the Vikings though he views the battle as spiritual, and his daughter, Princess Gisla (Morgana Polanski), may possess more courage and resolve than even he.

If you’re looking to catch up or just get a refresher, seasons one and two of Vikings are available on Amazon and Hulu. Check out the extended trailer for the new season after the break.
