Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner, part of the team responsible for bringing Doctor Who back to TV in 2005, have teamed up with The X-Files‘ Glen Morgan and The L Word‘s Rose Lam to bring a new original series to BBC America. Intruders stars John Simm, Mira Sorvino, Robert Forster, James Frain, Tory Kittles and introduces ten-year old Millie Brown.

Based on Michael Marshall Smith’s novel, Intruders is about a secret society devoted to chasing immortality by seeking refuge in the bodies of others. It premieres Saturday, August 23rd on BBC America and the channel has provided a brand-new creepy trailer to get you ready. Most likely this will be paired with the return of Doctor Who and should make Saturdays full of sci-fi fun this autumn.

Why is No One Talking About Marvel’s ‘Original Sin’?

marvel-original-sin

It has come to be accepted that during the summer months, comic book stores are destined to be the home of big annual event books. Since House of M, every year Marvel has pushed out event after event with varying levels of success and long term effect. These events have been as discussed as who is a Skrull in Secret Invasion to the utter lack of attention paid to titles like Infinity.

But what makes one event a bigger deal than another? And ultimately, why does no one seem to care at all about Original Sin?

On the surface, the central idea of Original Sin is an interesting one. There is a murder mystery around who killed the Watcher, one of Marvel’s most iconic upper B-squad characters. But quickly you start to care really about who killed him because in comics no one stays dead forever so it doesn’t really matter since big baldy is going to come back eventually.

The Flickcast Episode 250: Han Shot First

han-solo-greedo-1

It’s Wednesday and that means a brand new episode of The Flickcast for your listening pleasure. Like last week, we worked hard on this one. Although, not quite as hard.

We’re kinda slackers, truth be told. But still, it is a pretty good episode.

On this week’s show Chris and Joe get right to the point and discuss the latest Game of Thrones happenings, the Harrison Ford deathwatch, Justice League, er, um Superman vs. Batman casting, the upcoming DC movie slate, beer, food, sex, drugs and rock and roll. Well, maybe not those last few. Just wanted to see if you were paying attention.

They do discuss a lot more, as usual. And no, the guys don’t really do anything special to commemorate the 250th episode. Maybe at 300.

Picks this week include Chris’ pick of the new novel by Daniel H. Wilson called Robogenesis (the sequel to Robopocalypse) and Joe’s pick of season two of the TV show Brew Dogs.

This ‘Destiny’ Game Trailer Looks Pretty Cool

Destiny-Traveler-Key Art

Some of you may remember a little company called Bungie that, back in the day, made cool games for the Mac like Marathon and Myth. As time went on they sold themselves to Microsoft and their Mac games kinda went away in favor of new games for the XBox and other consoles.

You may have heard of one of the games they created for the XBox during that time. It’s called Halo.

Anyway, in 2007 Bungie split from Microsoft and went on its own again. Since then they’ve made some new games and are now set to launch a brand new title we think looks pretty cool: Destiny.

There’s a new trailer for the game. Check it out after the break. Welcome back Bungie.

The guys also made picks this week. Chris’ pick is the latest Liam Neeson action/thriller Non-Stop and Joe’s pick is another podcast called Welcome to Night Vale . Listen to it, it’s pretty good.

Game Review: ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ for PlayStation 4

the amazing spider-man 2 cover image

The funny thing is that movie games have a pretty terrible reputation in the gaming world. Most are quickly put together knock-offs of what could be considered a full game that depend upon riding on the fame of the established franchise. But back in 2004, Spider-Man 2 based off the Sami Rami take on the franchise changed all that.

Without reliance upon the movie, Spider-Man 2 as a game was just good. It was a great movie game, a great super hero game and most importantly a great Spider-Man game (considered the best of the character up to this point). But ten years later, the game and movie franchises have both gotten a reboot and that’s not always a good thing.

The Long…

First let’s talk about the story of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. While I applaud the writers trying to separate themselves from the movie slightly be adding in a whole new subplot connecting the scenes between the movie as previous games often do, the beats in this one just feel off. The early beat that introduces the game’s main antagonist also directly messes with the whole Uncle Ben story and what happens to Ben’s killer. It feels about as accurate to the character as Superman killing in Man of Steel.

On this week’s show Chris and Joe jump right in and talk all about the new cast announcements and leaked set picks from Star Wars VII, set pics and more from Terminator: Genesis, the relentless darkness that is Game of Thrones, the Stargate reboot, Val Kilmer’s career, recent Apple announcements and a whole lot more.

The guys also made picks this week. Chris’ pick is one of his favorite gadgets, the iPad Mini with Retina Display, and Joe’s pick is the new album from former Bourgeois Tagg member Brent Bourgeois called Don’t Look Back.

‘The Simpsons’ LEGO Minifigures Unbagging

LEGO The Simpsons

LEGOs are a slippery slope. You see a cool Star Wars pack by the checkout at Target. It only costs five bucks. You tell yourself it would look cool on your desk. Then next time you see the Daily Bugle and think it’ll look great on your shelf. Six months later you have a replica of the Death Star and Batman’s Bat Cave taking up a quarter of your living room. And then, the sick bastards decide this isn’t enough and make something you’ve been waiting for since you were 5… the Simpsons in LEGO form.

Luckily I have the self control (lack of funds) to spend $270 on the Simpsons house even though it is pretty epic to say the least. Because of that, it’ll be easier to hold back purchasing Moe’s Tavern or the Quik-E Mart when they are inevitably released. But LEGO still knows how to stick it to you. They make a set of 16 blind bag minifigures of all of the top Simpsons characters and charge a “mere” $4 each. So just to get the entire set with no duplicates, it’s going to take $64 bucks, plus tax.
