Check Out a Preview of Marvel’s ‘Deadpool vs. Carnage’ #1

Deadpool_vs_Carnage_1_Cover-Crop

Someday we will see a stand-alone Deadpool movie. Until then, we will have to content ourselves with his occasional cameos in other character’s movies as well as his appearances in comics. Fortunately, he’s in comics quite often.

Case in point is the upcoming limited series Deadpool vs. Carnage. Here’s the scoop directly from Marvel:

Carnage is on the warpath – moving across the country, butchering as he goes! The authorities are powerless. So how do you stop a psycho? Bring in another psycho! And you can bet this one is gonna be bloody! Don’t miss one minute of the blood-soaked chaos this April as the Merc with a Mouth tussles with the Symbiote Serial Killer in DEADPOOL VS. CARNAGE #1!

Look for Deadpool vs. Carnage #1, written by Cullen Bunn with art by Salva Espin, to hit stores on April 4. Check out some preview pages after the break.

Apple Introduces CarPlay

carplay-apple-1

Love them or hate them, Apple is one of the most dominant players all over the world world with their iPad and iPhone devices. And now they’re looking to expand that dominance into a new place: your car.

That’s right, today Apple announced a new way to integrate iOS7 devices with your future vehicle. It’s called CarPlay and, to be honest, it looks pretty darn cool.

Set to debut later this year in vehicles from select manufacturers, CarPlay will let users make and receive calls, send and receive messages, listen to music and navigate with Maps, all via a built-in display in the car. Several other apps will be supported at launch, including Podcasts, Beats Music, Spotify, iHeartRadio and Stitcher.

Car companies such as Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo will showcase CarPlay at next week’s Geneva International Motor Show. Meanwhile, others such as BMW, Ford, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Mitsubishi, Nissan, PSA Peugeot Citroën, Subaru, Suzuki and Toyota intend to make future vehicles compatible with CarPLay.

For more on how it will work, Volvo has released a video highlights CarPlay’s features. Check it out after the break.

Gunnar Glasses Actually Help Reduce Headaches During Extended Gameplay Sessions

Kryptonite

It may sound gimmicky on the surface. If you tell someone there’s a special pair of glasses they can wear while gaming that will reduce eye strain, it sounds like hype to sell overpriced goods that don’t actually work. And at first, I would have agreed with that assumption. But trying to be a fair and unbiased person, which is really a challenge for me, I put in a request for a pair of Gunnar glasses and to my surprise, they actually accomplished the job.

I won’t get into the science behind it. That’s mostly because any of the science I would know about it comes from reading the Gunnar website and as we all know, websites can provide whatever “facts” they need to in order to make a sale. Yes, a wonder drug may reduce hair loss but that’s because it kills you but at least they are still telling the truth that your hair doesn’t fall out.

Instead, I just did my own test. After a busy week at the office where I spent between 7 to 9 hours each day in front of a monitor I decided to spend the better part of a Saturday marathoning a game. It’s been some time since I have done a full on marathon but after the initial few hours it usually resulted in taking breaks to get up for various reasons, just to get my face away from the screen. Eventually, the time in between started to reduce and after a full day I’d have a nice headache to deal with.

Movie Review: ‘Non-Stop’

nonstop1

Liam Neeson is Bill Marks, a U.S. Federal air marshal with the obligatory checkered past and a delightful host of vices. Midway through a trans-Atlantic flight he receives a text message from an untraceable number that claims in 20 minutes someone on the plane will die…unless a $150 million is deposited into a special account. And Bill, with the help of stewardess Nancy (Michelle Dockery) and plucky passenger Jen (Julianne Moore) must uncover the identity of the potential killer/hijacker.

That’s all you need; if you want to know how the rest of the movie plays out, just imagine everything you can do with that premise, as the passengers gradually become more and more aware of the situation and Marks’s control gradually diminishes – or, better yet, see the film.

Director Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan, Unknown) maintains a consistent feel of paranoia by keeping his camera close and confined to the actors’ faces, barely giving the audience a chance to breathe and, early on, lingering on a handful of passengers to playfully suggest that any one or two or all of them could be the culprit. Even before the mystery begins you’re already suspicious, and while I was hoping for the villain to be revealed as the little girl’s teddy bear (Spoiler: It’s not), it wasn’t too much of stretch, given Collet-Serra’s insinuation that everyone on this damn plane must be hiding something.

TV RECAP: ‘The Following’ Episode 206: ‘Fly Away’

Following 206 Pic

This week on The Following Mark hears noises coming from Luke’s room, and finds Giselle dead in Luke’s bed. Luke is pretending that she’s alive, but it’s very obvious that Giselle is dead. Luke tells him that Hardy killed her.

Max is stitching up Hardy’s gunshot wound while Hardy calls Mike. He tells Mike that Lily has a whole family, and that he thinks they (including Joe) are nearby. Mike tells him he’s on the way, and takes off without telling anyone at the FBI. When Mike arrives by himself, he tells Hardy he thinks the FBI has been compromised, and that someone from the inside has been tipping off Joe.

Lily and Joe are still in bed, and Lily is telling Joe all about how they can take the whole family to Venezuela. She has her own plane, and a place on the beach, and it’s very tough to extradite from Venezuela. Joe tells Lily that there are always options. Lily is upset that he doesn’t want to just pick up everything and leave. One of the French girls comes in to tell Lily there is a problem.

‘Grimm’ and ‘Hannibal’ Return Tonight, So Here’s Some Previews

hannibal-cast-1

Friday night used to be pretty much a wasteland when it came to TV shows. People go out on Friday nights so networks used to dump their least interesting shows, or ones they didn’t care much about, at the end of the work week.

Now, with pretty much everyone having a DVR and the networks needing to compete with cable and online, Friday’s TV fare has greatly improved. Case in point are two shows we’re big fans of: Grimm and Hannibal.

Both are new tonight, now that the Olympics are over, and we’ve got previews for both of them for you. We won’t get too much into details about what happens in the new episodes, but you can definitely expect some surprises and a lot of action.

Grimm airs at 9/8C followed by Hannibal at 10/9C on NBC. Check out the previews after the break.

TV RECAP: ‘The Walking Dead’ Episode 411: ‘Claimed’

Walking Dead 411 Pic

Carl is eating cereal as Michonne jokes with him.  She is wearing normal people clothes, and is acting like a normal person, not the emotionless zombie she’s been all along.  They talk and joke about soy milk, and for a minute they seem actually happy.  Not a good emotion for Carl, but none really seem to be.  Carl says he’d rather drink Judith’s formula than soy milk, and the realization that she is gone sends him back into a funk.

Rick thanks Michonne for making Carl laugh, and tells her she is the friend to him that he cannot be, since he is too busy being his father.  Michonne offers to take Carl looking for supplies so Rick can rest up.  Rick objects, but Michonne promises him it’s only one day of rest.

As they go from house to house, Michonne is trying to get Carl to laugh again, but she’s basically acting like an idiot.  Carl tells her he was laughing on the inside.  She tells Carl about her son, and says she could make him laugh all the time.  Carl seems shocked that Michonne was ever an actual person.  Can’t say I don’t agree.  He asked all kinds of questions, which Michonne promises to answer one at a time as they clear each room.

The ‘Loot Crate Wars’ Return with the ‘Warriors’ Crate

Loot Crate

Our apologies for the hiatus, but the team at Whiskey & Waffles is back for 2014 and ready to kick things up to the next level. For the new year we are bringing gameplay footage to Whiskey & Waffles for the first time and expect more of it moving forward. For our introductory gameplay, WallE and I are going head to head in the Loot Crate War for the month of February with the theme: Warriors!

For those new to Loot Crate, it is a monthly subscription service that sends a box full of themed geek goodies. This month’s crate revolves around Warriors, with the most popular warriors in the geekspace right now being the Bravest Warriors on Cartoon Hangover. But without spoiling it (since that defeats the purpose of our video), I will tell you there are more Warriors tied into the contents of the box rather than just the Bravest Warriors too.
