The Flickcast – Page 64 of 1030 – Stuff Nerds Love

On the Next ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”… on MARCH 4th!

agents-of-shield

The start of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was a little rough. After the first episode, not much really happened and the name Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. quickly became synonymous with the bitter comic book audience with saying that not much was going on. But then, seemingly out of nowhere, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. came back to the new year with by far one of their best episodes only to put us on a two week hiatus.

And then last night it came back with another great episode, some quality references to events of some of the movies, some great comic book fan “ah ha!” moments and a cliffhanger ending. Did Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. actually get it right?

Well I’ll leave it to Eric for his episode recap for you to decide about how good the episode was. My problem actually came from the preview for the next episode… that will be airing on March 4th. Yes. You read that right. March 4th. As in one month away. Not for nothing guys but what is that? We take a break, get one episode, and then it’s another month? That’s garbage.

Watch Every ‘Transformers’ Movie Transformation In One Video

Transformers-4-Grimlock-Optimus-Prime

With Transformers 4 (aka Age of Extinction), starring Mark Wahlberg and Nicola Peltz, set to hit theaters later this year, it’s time to take a look back at all the Transformers have given us over the years. And what better way to do that than with a video showing every single transformation scene in every Transformers movie. Well, the Michael Bay ones at least.

The video was created by Tunglebrek who gives appropriate accolades to Michael Bay, ILM, Digital Domain and sound designer Erik Aadahl for their great work. And yes, we feel like Tunglebrek probably has quite a bit of free time on his or her hands.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Check out the vid after the break.

Here’s the synopsis:

Sounds cool, right? We think so to. That’s kinda why we’re here.

The comic was created by Academy Award–winning producer Aron Warner, written by Philip Gelatt and features art by Brett Weldele. We’ve got some preview pages for it after the break.

Look for Pariah to arrive in stores on February 26.

Discovering ‘Supernatural’ Season 1

2014-01-22 Discovering 'Supernatural' S1 1

In September of 2005, both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel had finished their runs while Smallville was about to kick off their fifth season. As for me, I had a very busy 5 year-old (hey kiddo; daddy loves you) and another on the way, and my wife and I were looking for a bigger house.

Needless to say, when I started seeing promos for Supernatural – The WB’s latest genre-infused drama – I decided to take a pass as time had become a precious commodity. Almost a decade later I set out to rectify that slight…

Basic premise of the show is simple: John Winchester (played by George Clooney-lite, Jeffrey Dean Morgan) witnesses his wife Mary (Samantha Smith) murdered by a demon. Years later, his sons Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) reunite to track down dear old dad and kill whatever goes bump in the night along the way.

This set up allows for the “freak of the week” template that Smallville had used for most of their seasons, and it works well within the realm of the spooky. Another aspect that clicked in that first season were the genuine scares, of which there are plenty of. The amount of times I jumped could almost be categorized as a work out.

Movie Review: ‘That Awkward Moment’

tam1

Zac Effron is Jason, a 20-or-so book-cover designer living in New York with his best friend and co-worker Daniel (The Spectacular Now‘s Miles Teller) and other best friend Mikey (Michael B. Jordan). Mikey discovers his wife canoodling with the lawyer who will eventually handle their divorce, and so he and Dan and Jason make a pact to remain single. However, Jason meets Ellie (Imogen Poots), they hit it off, but he’s reluctant to tell his friends because of, you know, the pact.

And Dan meets someone. And Mikey hooks up with someone. And they keep those trysts secret, too, because, again, pact. And to go any further meet be a spoiler, but so then would be any wild stab-in-Central-Park conjecture as to what happens.

That Awkward Moment isn’t a difficult movie to review, because it’s not very good. The dialogue plays like any mid-90s attempt to imitate Pulp Fiction — which is basically sitting around a table dwelling on the minute, trying to sound clever.

Jason, for example, believes it an incredibly profound insight that, when coming from a girl, nothing good ever follows the word, “So…” as in “So, where is this going?” a phrase I’m certain was the film’s title in at least one stage of development (but then they couldn’t say “Based on the popular meme!”), and yet, who reading this has not had an awkward break in the conversation when “So…” has led to intercourse?

The Flickcast – Episode 235: This Is Gonna Suck

tmnt-poster-crop-1

It’s that time again, folks. That’s right, a brand new episode of The Flickcast is here and once again it’s yours for the taking. Still for free.

Of course, Chris and Joe are back and ready to rock and roll with a whole slew of new and recurring topics. Some of these topics include the new photos released from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Michael Bay’s filmmaking prowess, some X-Men: Days of Future Past magazine covers, the amazingness of Hugh Jackman, the Syfy series Helix, Thor 3 and Captain America 3, the imminent return of The Walking Dead and the fact that everything sucks, at least if you believe people on the Interwebs.

There’s also the ever-present more. And, 20% more sincerity this week. So yeah, there’s that.

This week’s picks include Chris’ pick of the HBO series True Detective and Joe’s pick of the XBMC software for the Rasberry Pi. Nerd, amiright?

As always, if you have comments, questions, critiques, offers of sponsorship, or whatever, feel free to hit us up in the comments, on Twitter, at FacebookGoogle+ or via email.

Check Out a Preview for Dark Horse’s ‘Tomb Raider’ #1

TombRaider1-crop

It seems the folks at Dark Horse are fond of taking iconic characters and putting them into comic books. While not exactly a new practice, the company seems to have chosen some pretty great ones of late.

Recently, we brought you previews of new comics featuring The Terminator and Conan, now it’s Lara Croft’s turn as we’ve got a preview for the upcoming Tomb Raider #1.

In this one “writer Gail Simone picks up Lara Croft’s story where the Tomb Raider game left off—in and promises to take Ms. Croft on adventures that will change her life forever.” Sound good. Let’s do this!

Check out the preview after the break. Look for Tomb Raider #1 to arrive in stores on February 26.

TV RECAP: ‘American Horror Story: Coven’ Episode 313: ‘The Seven Wonders’

AHS 313 Pic

This week on the season finale of American Horror Story: Coven a Stevie Nicks video starts playing, with her singing some song called Seven Wonders. This serves as the backdrop as we see Queenie, Madison, Misty, and Zoe preparing for the test of the seven wonders.

Myrtle and Cordelia oversee the tests. Cordelia explains that this may be the first time the seven wonders are used to name the new Supreme, not to confirm the incoming one. Fiona was supposed to find her replacement, but instead tried to kill anyone she thought might be the new Supreme.

The tests begin, and all four pass the first two. Misty is unable to return from Hell during the third test, and dies. This leaves Madison, Zoe, and Queenie.  During the transmutation test, the three play a game of tag, finally having fun for the first time in forever. Cordelia warns them to be careful, and lo and behold, Zoe somehow ends up spiked on top of the fence.

Zoe is near death, and Queenie tries to bring her back to life, but is unable. I guess this means Queenie is out of the running for Supreme. Cordelia tries to guilt Madison into doing it, but Madison gives them an ultimatum – make her the Supreme or she’ll leave. Zoe is dead, and Madison doesn’t care. They all knew the risks going in.
