Dolph Is Back In This Trailer for ‘Battle of the Dammed’

battle-dammed-lundgren-1

Dolph Lundgren. Whatever that name means to you, he’s had quite the career since he first came onto the scene as Ivan Drago in Rocky IV. Now, almost 30 years later, Dolph is still around and still making movies. Some of them even with Stallone. This isn’t one of those.

Instead, Lundgren stars in Battle of the Dammed with some lesser-knows. Not that that makes them bad actors, they’re just no Stallone. Make of that what you will.

We have a trailer for after the break. But first, here’s all you need to know:

When a deadly virus is accidentally released into a major city, its population is quarantined by military blockade. And for a wealthy industrialist desperate to rescue his daughter from inside the rabid chaos, his only hope is former commando Max Gatling (Lundgren). Now Gatling has one day to bust in, blast through hordes of the undead, find the girl, and hunt for a way to get them both out alive.

But will a small band of survivors and an army of killer robots turn his mission into maximum slaughter?

Maybe. But we’re gonna guess it won’t happen without a lot of bloodshed and stuff blowing up. Look for Battle of the Dammed to arrive on Blu-ray on February 18th. Check out the trailer after the break.

BBC America Reveals Peter Capaldi’s ‘Doctor Who’ Costume

DOCTOR-WHO-CAPALDI-1-Crop

New Doctor means new clothes. The Twelfth Doctor is getting into the Whovian swing of things by choosing an outfit all his own. BBC America has released the first image of Doctor Who actor Peter Capaldi in what will likely be his signature costume.

At first glance, Calpaldi’s look is old school with a bit of modern flair. While there is no bowtie or extra long scarf or Converse shoes to stand out, the clothes do fit the man. As Capaldi said, “He’s woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent Rebel Time Lord.”

Of course all Whovians know that the Doctor’s outfit usually has a story behind it but fans will have to wait until later this year to learn how and why the Twelfth Doctor picked his costume. The specifics of the outfit, according to BBC America, are: a dark blue Crombie coat with red lining, dark blue trousers, a white shirt and black Doc Marten shoes.

Discovering ‘Ultimate Comics Spider-Man’ V1

ucs

Waaaay back in 2000, Marvel launched a new line of comics focusing on some of their more popular characters set within an alternate universe where anything could happen. Their flagship title, naturally, was Ultimate Spider-Man; and from there the universe continued to expand (and in some cases significantly contract) as scenarios played out without any concern for longstanding repercussions.

It was exciting; it was new and readers really didn’t have a clue what was coming next. 11 years later Peter Parker met his heroic demise, kicking off a new era with a new Spider-Man; this time with high school student Miles Morales at the helm. And this is where we begin…

Admittedly, I like my Spider-Mans to be Peter Parkery; and while I tried to stay on board with Dan Slott’s current Superior Spider-Man arc (spoiler: Spider-Man is NOT Peter Parker there), I struggled to invest in the character I’ve read for thirty-plus years. I’m old school; there, I said it. Luckily, this being an alternate universe, I was able to push my stubbornness aside and plow through.

Happy 30th Mac!

happy-30th-macintosh

On January 24, 1984 the first Macintosh computer from Apple was launched. And the world was never the same again.

Regardless of your personal feelings towards Apple or its products, there’s no denying the company changed the personal computer world forever with the introduction of the Macintosh. And in the 30 years since, many of us here at The Flickcast (and elsewhere to be sure) couldn’t imagine going through our day, or getting work done, without one.

To commemorate this milestone, Apple has a special home page on its website and a video to celebrate “30 years of Mac innovation.” The company has also created a special section on its website dedicated to the 30 years of Mac.

On one of the many pages at Apple’s website dedicated to the Mac, there’s a quote from Steve Jobs which helps set the stage and encapsulates fully the lasting legacy that is the Mac.

“We’re just in the beginning stages of what will be a truly remarkable breakthrough for most people — as remarkable as the telephone,” said Jobs.

How right he was. Check out the video after the break. Happy 30th Mac!

‘Video Game High School’ Season 3 Earns $100K in 24 Hours

Video Game High School 3

Video Game High School was one of the first of its kind. As a web series, it set a new standard for content creation on YouTube. It wasn’t just quality work, but it was coupled with a serialized story told using top quality visual effects.

Without even knowing the real impact that VGHS would have, Freddie Wong’s fans donated over $250,000 to Rocketjump to fund season one. They’d later set a Kickstarter record with season 2 for $800,000 for the highest backed webseries. It has gone on to earn tens of millions of views on YouTube, sold thousands of DVDs and Blu Ray and can be found on Netflix.

As Video Game High School has always been designed to be a trilogy, Freddie Wong and Matt Arnold have launched an IndieGoGo campaign to fund the final chapter in the VGHS saga. As season 2 had some Empire moments with certain characters leaving and others changing sides, his fanbase is clamouring for the final season.

To get it out before the end of the year, Freddie and his team will start shooting on March 1st. This shooting schedule will also allow them to be the first product completed that is shot in full 48 fps in 4K. It is a pretty momentous feat for all the tech and visual effects nerds out there.

Check Out This Preview for Marvel’s ‘New Warriors’ #1

New_Warriors_1_Preview_2-Crop

It’s Thursday so that means a preview of an upcoming comic release we’re looking forward to. This week it’s the reboot of the New Warriors written by Christopher Yost with art by Marcus To. Here’s all you need to know from the official Marvel press release:

“They’re eight people from different corners of the Marvel Universe, coming together to do the right thing, to be heroes,” says writer Christopher Yost, in an interview with Marvel.com. “They’re not kids, they’re not seasoned heroes for the most part, but they’re idealists. Sometime it’s okay to be a hero for the sake of being a hero; to be with a team because they’re your friends, because it’s fun.”

“Sometimes the world just needs saving,” continued Yost.

Evolution has gone off the rails. There are super humans, mutants, Inhumans, clones, aliens, and more everywhere you turn. Humanity no longer exists as the dominant life form on the planet. And not everyone is pleased! The High Evolutionary has raised an army to combat these “superior” beings – through complete extermination!

Check out the preview pages after the break. Look for New Warriors to arrive in stores on February 19.
