amazing-spider-man-2

Even though we not-so-secretly wish Spider-Man would become part of Marvel/Disney again so we could see him as a member of The Avengers, we’re not unhappy he still gets solo movies either. Next up for the web crawler is The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the sequel to the reboot from two years ago.

Sony has released the first trailer for, the film and we’ve got it for you, just like everyone else. Still, that doesn’t make it any less cool.

The sequel brings back Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy. This time around, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man goes up against a cadre of villains including Jamie Foxx‘s Electro, Chris Cooper’s Green Goblin and Paul Giamatti’s Rhino. Dane DeHaan, Sally Field and Denis Leary also star in the Marc Webb-directed movie.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 debuts in the U.S. on May 2, 2014. Trailer is after the break.

TV RECAP: ‘The Walking Dead’ Episode 408: ‘Too Far Gone’

Walking Dead 408 Pic

We begin with The Governor doing what The Governor does best, convincing a camp full of people to attack Rick’s group at the prison. The Governor tells them that they burned down his city and killed his daughter. There a few good people there, but most of them are thieves and murderers.

While The Governor is talking to the camp, a flashback is shown of him knocking out Michonne and pulling a gun on Herschel. He tells his group that he has captured two of the prison’s members, and this will ensure a safe, bloodless transfer of property. He has kidnapped Michonne and Herschel so that Rick will give up the prison in return for their safety.

Everyone agrees to The Governor’s plan. Well all except for Lilly. She overheard The Governor’s speech, and thinks they are fine right where they are. The Governor tells her he is glad she heard (which I’m sure is a lie) and that the prison is the only safe place for them.

Michonne and Herschel are being held captive in a trailer. Herschel tries to convince The Governor that the two camps can live together in peace. Herschel realizes that The Governor has changed, and tells him that Rick has changed as well. If he talks to Rick they can work something out. The Governor is not willing to do this. He can’t live together with Rick and Michonne.

Audiences Bewitched by ‘Witches of East End’

Witches_of_East_End_Logo

How have writers’ for episodic television ever gotten along without the help of witches? It’s hard to find a good genre show these days that doesn’t feature a witch or two, either good or bad or… It’s become so de rigueur that it almost makes you wonder if the PTB don’t have a few witches consulting in the Programming Department.

Not that witches haven’t always been popular as leading characters or narrative catalysts going all the way back to the lovely Samantha of Bewitched (1964), the beautifully evil Angelique of Dark Shadows (1966), the resourceful Willow from Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997) and the Halliwell sisters of Charmed (1998). A witch even ruled a children’s show with Witchiepoo of Pufnstuf (1969).

But now they’re all over the place, more powerful and more empowered. American Horror Story: Coven has its highest rating in three years in a New Orleans set witch fest. Witches pop up in Sleepy Hollow, The Originals, Grimm, True Blood, The Vampire Diaries, Once Upon A Time and even occasionally Supernatural. (But everyone knows Dean Winchester hates witches.) But that’s not the end of the witch craft explosion. CBS has announced a remake of Charmed and WGN America is currently shooting Salem, about the famous 17th century witch trials.

TV RECAP: ‘The Walking Dead’ Episode 407: ‘Dead Weight’

Walking Dead 407 Pic

Martinez did in fact rescue The Governor and Megan from the walker pit. They agree to take in his group, under two conditions. Martinez is in charge, and no dead weight. Contribute or be cast out.

The Governor goes on a supply run with Martinez, Mitch, and Pete. They keep finding decapitated bodies with signs on them like LIAR, RAPIST, and MURDERER. They come upon a cabin, and The Governor goes in first.

They can hear some noise in one of the back rooms. It is there that they find not only some walkers, but also the heads on the decapitated zombies. After they have taken care of the zombies, Mitch passes around some beers he found. Mitch and Pete tell The Governor about their military backgrounds. Martinez tells The Governor that it’s a good thing he had that girl and women with him. He doesn’t say exactly why, but it’s clear Martinez either would have killed him or left him in the pit.

Lilly sets up a nurse station in the camp, and Martinez cozies up to Lilly, Tara, and The Governor. Tara is also cozying up to a woman named Alicia. Martinez is a bit buzzed and has The Governor join him on top of a trailer to hit some golf balls.

Avengers_World_1_Cover-crop

It’s an Avengers’ world, we’re just livin’ in it. Don’t believe us? Well, perhaps this preview of the upcoming comic series, aptly titled Avengers World, will convince you. See what we did there?

The series, written by Jonathan Hickman and Nick Spencer with art by Stefano Caselli and a cover by John Cassaday, hits stores in January. Be sure to check out the preview pages aftr the break.

Here’s all the info from Marvel’s official release:

Following the events of INFINITY, our heroes have returned from the stars to find a very different Earth. New threats have emerged on the world they left behind, and new measures have risen up to deal with them. Earth has been marked an “Avengers World”, safely under the protection of Earth’s Mightiest.

But how will the nations and governments of the world respond to their claim – and what happens when it’s denied?

“The premise of the book is that it’s the Avengers, doing big things, because it’s an Avengers World now,” editor Tom Brevoort said in an interview with Marvel.com. “But while we’ll field the same potential lineup of 18+ Avengers in WORLD, we’ll specifically be looking to give greater screen time to some of the newer Avengers, like Hyperion, Smasher, Cannonball, Shang-Chi, Starbrand and Sunspot.”

The Loot Crate War: ‘Celebration’

Loot Crate November Celebrate

‘Tis the season and we at The Flickcast along with the Whiskey and Waffles team want to point everyone in the direction of one of our top gift recommendations. Every month, WallE and I get a Loot Crate shipped to our HQ and proceed to compete over the items inside. The reason we can’t share is because the stuff inside is just too cool to spread the wealth.

What we recommend is that people make sure to buy each of their loved ones a subscription which starts at $13.37 a month (yes, their price is “LEET” so you know these guys know what they are doing). If you head to www.lootcrate.com/whiskeyandwaffles and use the code “whiskeyandwaffles” you’ll get a 10% discount.

As mentioned, WallE and I cannot share. So that lead us to create the Loot Crate War. Last month, we competed for zombie related swag. November was all about celebration between the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who and the birth of a new console generation with the PlayStation 4 and XBox One launching.
