thor-loki-dark-world-1

That’s right, it’s another new episode of The Flickcast this week. Sadly, no episode was possible last week due to circumstances beyond our control. And no, it didn’t involve excessive alcohol. Good guess though.

But that’s the past. In the present, we’ve got a new episode for you and it’s chock full fun, exciting and useful information, discussions, observations and more! That’s right, more!

Topics this week include Thor: The Dark World and it’s recent tie-in with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Married with Children, The Walking Dead, Doctor Who, classic sitcoms and a whole lot more! Did we mention all the more! Well, there’s a lot of it.

This week’s picks include Chris’ pick of the brand new iPad Mini with retina display from Apple and Joe’s pick of the TV series Person of Interest.

As always, if you have comments, questions, critiques, offers of sponsorship or whatever, feel free to hit us up in the comments, on Twitter, at FacebookGoogle+ or via email.

Okay, Here’s the Very NSFW Trailer for Lars von Trier’s ‘Nymphomaniac’

nymphomanic-cast-1

If you happen to be interested in sex, Lars von Trier’s upcoming two-part opus Nymphomaniac is likely right up your, um, alley. Why? Well, it’s pretty much about sex all the time and is, from all accounts, quite graphic.

So yeah, there’s that. You can see exactly what we’re talking about in the first trailer for the film. And yes, this one is definitely not one you want to be watching at work. Unless, of course, you happen to work someplace where this would be cool to watch. If so, lucky you.

This trailer also serves to gives us some insight into Charlotte Gainsbourg’s titular character as well as glimpses of actors Stellan Skarsgård, Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell, Uma Thurman and Willem Dafoe. Magnolia Pictures has U.S. rights to the movie, but has not set a release data yet.

Meantime, check out the trailer, of course, after the break.

BBC America Takes ‘Doctor Who’ Fans on ‘An Adventure in Space and Time’

00_120_60MB

BBC America is running a marathon of Doctor Who episodes this week celebrating the 50th anniversary of the show culminating in the worldwide showing of Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor on Saturday, November 23. But on Friday evening, the 22nd, they will show An Adventure in Space and Time, which is a dramatic recreation of how The Doctor and his Companions finally made it to the “telly” 50 years ago.

Space and Time was written by Mark Gatiss, directed by Terry McDonough and stars David Bradley as William Hartnell, the very first Doctor. It also features Jessica Raine as producer Verity Lambert and Sacha Dhawan as director Waris Hussein.

An Adventure in Space and Time gives a glimpse of why and how Doctor Who has become a fan favorite all over the world. The show is an amazing feat, a one of a kind experience, but it almost didn’t happen. The first pilot never aired, they didn’t think Hartnell was right for a children’s show and that’s just part of the story.

“The film does cover quite in detail how hard it was for our three main characters to get the film made originally,” McDonough explains. “And also the problems they had on getting it broadcast. The first time the episode was made Sydney Newman [creator and Head of BBC Drama] insisted that they reshoot the whole thing. He just wasn’t happy with the quality of it.

Arnold Is Back In a New Trailer for ‘Sabotage’

arnold-sabotage-1

If there’s one action icon from the 80’s you can always count on, it’s Sylvester Stallone. But this particular post isn’t about him.

Instead, it’s about that other 80’s action icon you can pretty much always count on: Arnold Schwarzenegger. Once his stint in the California Govenor’s mansion was over, Arnold went back to movies full time. Those releases haven’t been met with the same, shall we say, enthusiasm as his earlier efforts.

This new one, callled Sabotage, looks to change all that. Here’s the synopsis:

In “Sabotage”, Arnold Schwarzenegger leads an elite DEA task force that takes on the world’s deadliest drug cartels. When the team successfully executes a high-stakes raid on a cartel safe house, they think their work is done – until, one-by-one, the team members mysteriously start to be eliminated. As the body count rises, everyone is a suspect.

Well, that won’t end well — especially for the drug dealers. Check out a trailer for Sabotage, which in addition to Arnold features Sam Worthington, Olivia Williams, Terrence Howard, Joe Manganiello, and Mireille Enos, after the break.

Op-Ed: Why I Waited for the XBox One

x-box-one-wide

The lines were drawn some time ago in this latest generation of the console war. With shots being fired all around since the consoles were officially announced to feature sets and launch titles, things have gotten messy.

And even though we are lucky enough to get review copies of games here on a regular basis, we didn’t get our hands on a freebie for either the XBox One or PlayStation 4. When budget came in to effect, I had to choose which side I’d be backing and since there could be only One… (You see what I did there?)

In the end, it came down to two things. The first is that I have bought both a PlayStation 3 and a Vita but the majority of my collection of games in the last generation were for the XBox 360. More people I knew played multiplayer on XBox 360 so for things like Call of Duty: Ghost and Grand Theft Auto V, that’s where people already were.

And as silly as they might be, I have become an achievement whore over the past 8 years and try as they might, Sony’s trophies don’t have the same effect on me. I cracked over 50,000 in one generation, I need to top it in the next.
