Zatanna Conjures Her Way to ‘Injustice: Gods Among Us’

Zatanna Injustice Cover Image

I went for the tacky pun. I had to. Chris doesn’t let me put enough puns on the Flickcast. And it’s Zatanna. You really can’t expect me to post a story about her in any way shape or form and not mess with it at LEAST a little bit. So now that I have gotten that out of my system, let’s get down to business: Zatanna is coming to Injustice: Gods Among Us.

Though appearing in a number of comics such as Hawkman, Batman, Green Lantern and The Atom alongside the title heroes starting in 1964, it was more than a decade later before she was offered membership into the Justice League. The crux of her early appearances revolved around the search for her father, magician Giovanni Zatara. Unlike most magicians though, Zatanna actually possesses legitimate magical ability because of her mother Sindella, who is Homo magi. Staying true to her father’s profession, Zatanna’s costume resembles that of a Playboy bunny combined with a magician’s tux (though the New 52 version only wears that costume on stage).

thor-dark-world-1

That’s right, Thor is back and he’s ready to rumble. The sequel to the Kenneth Branagh-directed Thor, called Thor: The Dark World, continues where the last one left off and features the God of Thunder as he battles to save Earth, and all the Nine Realms, from a shadowy enemy led by the vengeful Malekith.

Oh, and along the way there’s some romance and a potential love triangle. And, of course, stuff blows up and Thor does what he does best.

Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins, Rene Russo, Christopher Eccleston and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje star. The movie hits theaters in the states on November 8.

Check out the brand new trailer after the break.

QuakeCon 2013 Crowns New Champion

QuakeCon Champion

It looks like Quake is still a thing. Who knew? While it has been years since I grabbed a mouse and keyboard and hit a Quake deathmatch, there have been others who haven’t stopped.

Each year, QuakeCon brings together the top players in the Quake world and this time was no exception. For this year’s $9,000 prize in the Quick Live 1v1 QuakeCon 2013 Championship, it was American Quake Champion Shane “Rapha” Hendrixson who would go on to beat Sergey “Evil” Orekhov in a best of five championship series.

As you’ll see in the video below, Rapha was able to take down Evil who forfeited with a massive lead in the fourth and final game of their match. Going into the match though, Rapha was being considered a little bit of the the underdog to the Russian Orekhov and he knew it.

Loot Crate: Reviewing the July Crate

Loot Crate 8

I recently wrote about Loot Crate, the company that is supplying geeks and gamers with a box of swag every month. To find out first hand whether the subscription service lives up to the hype, I got the July crate to review.

Part of the fun of the crate is definitely the mystery. I was nearly giddy with excitement when opening it, like a kid on Christmas morning. The first thing I saw upon unboxing was Star Wars earbuds. Immediately I knew I was in for a good haul. Next came a Thor Pez dispenser and then a Sonic the Hedgehog air freshener, which has a pleasing floral scent to it.

As I progressed, the crate’s theme became clear. Whether to coincide with Geek Week on YouTube (August 4-11) or VidCon 2013 (August 1-3) or because popular web series Video Game High School (VGHS) began its second season on July 26th, this crate was perfectly themed around VGHS. Included was the entire first season of the show on DVD and a set of buttons portraying the different schools (e.g. Adventure and Discovery or Speed and Control).

The ‘Celebrity Gaming Challenge’ is Coming! (to New England)

Celebrity Gaming Challenge

When I first got this press release, I wasn’t very happy. After all, it was only six months ago I packed my bags and left New England to come to LA and now I find out that there is going to be a gaming show with celebrities being taped in my old backyard. Massachusetts and New Hampshire were just short drives for this Connecticut native. But things aren’t always as they appear at first glance.

A combined effort of Blind Sheep Studios and GameFlak, Celebrity Gaming Challenge takes the term celebrity and stretches it a little thin. Right now, the only thing known about the two celebrity team captains is that they will both be members of the New England Patriots. And the shooting will take place in October, right in the middle of the NFL season.

Now it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that these celebrity team captains probably aren’t going to be the cream of the Patriots crop. But none the less, I give them credit for their ingenuity and clever use of technicalities of the English language.

VidCon13: Hannah Hart, Grace Helbig, and Mamrie Hart to Star in ‘Camp Takota’

Camp Takota

YouTube’s favorite gal pals are making a movie. Hannah Hart (MyHarto), Grace Helbig (DailyGrace), and Mamrie Hart (You Deserve a Drink) will star in Camp Takota as announced at VidCon 2013.

Inspired in part by Mamrie Hart’s experience working at a summer camp, the plot of the film is pretty simple: Helbig is a twentysomething who finds herself returning to her old summer camp to work. There she runs into two old friends, played by Hart and Hart. Hijinks, humor, and booze are sure to ensue if the ladies’ history holds true.

The first trailer for Camp Takota released at VidCon 2013 and mainly consists of a lot of flubbed lines and laughter, much to the delight of fans. A booth at the convention let attendees sign up for camp, get a friendship bracelet and take their camp picture.

Camp Takota will be made available exclusively on pay-to-view platform, Chill.com.

DLC Review: The ‘Merc with a Mouth’ Pack for ‘Deadpool’

Deadpool Merc with a Mouth DLC

Normally, we are too busy to be able to come back and do reviews on DLC for game,s but as you saw in my recent review of the Deadpool game, I really enjoyed it and was looking for a reason to go back. That reason came from a download code for the Merc with a Mouth map pack.

For $2.99 on the PlayStation 3 or 240 Microsoft Points on the XBox 360, players can download two additional maps for the game’s challenge mode along with two new costumes. Spoiler alert: This DLC pack was actually a preorder bonus from Gamestop upon the original Deadpool release so if you already did that, then you probably don’t need to make this purchase… or read this review… so… sorry!

So first off, let’s talk about costumes. For some reason which isn’t ever really discussed, the costume options are only available in the Infinite mode which is a wave based level of the challenge modes. Still not entirely sure why these special outfits are only available in the challenge mode when it is just a skin swap over the character so keep that in mind if you didn’t go through (or like me just didn’t spend a lot of time) in the Challenge mode. The D-Pooly costume resembles Deadpool’s selfstyled MC look while the X-Force outfit represents the grey and black from when Deadpool joined up on Wolverine’s black ops team… but they are only available to the challenge mode.

VidCon13: ‘Lizzie Bennet Diaries’ Team Unveils ‘Emma’ Adaptation

Emma Approved

Attention The Lizzie Bennet Diaries fans. Emma Approved is coming your way this Fall.

The team of showrunner Bernie Su, producer Hank Green, and Pemberly Digital announced their newest Jane Austen web video adaptation at VidCon 2013. Heroine Emma Woodhouse will be modernized as a confident entrepreneur who, of course, places a bit too much faith in her matchmaking prowess.

Su and Green’s first Austen outing, The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, was a resounding success. Over 216,000 subscribers watched the 100 episode series. The program won two Streamys and was nominated for five more. A Kickstarter to fund the DVD raised over $462,000, nearly 800% of the $60,000 goal. The series was followed by Welcome to Sanditon, based on one of Austen’s short stories and starring some of the Lizzie Bennet characters.

There’s no word yet on any casting decisions for Emma Approved. However, with the show hitting YouTube in the Fall, fans should know soon enough who is playing the iconic Emma, Mr. Knightly, Frank Churchill and the rest of Highbury.
