Okay BSG fans, today is the day. If you’ve been missing that hot Cylon vs. Man action, things are going to get a whole lot better starting right frakkin’ now.
Why? Well, because today Machinima, Inc. and Universal Cable Productions premiered the first 2 episodes of the new show Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome. And because we love you (and BSG, of course) we’ve got the first two episodes of the show right after the break.
In case you haven’t been keeping up, this new show takes place during the first Cylon war and tells the story of “gifted fighter pilot William Adama (Luke Pasqualino) who finds himself assigned to one of the most powerful battlestars in the Colonial fleet: the Galactica. Full of ambition and hungry for action, Adama quickly finds himself at odds with his co-pilot, the battle-weary officer Coker (Ben Cotton). With only 47 days left in his tour of duty, Coker desires an end to battle as much as Adama craves its onset.”
New episodes will roll out every Friday exclusively on Machinima Prime. As we said, check out the first two episodes after the break.

For those of you anxiously waiting for another series that takes place in the Battlestar Galactica universe (and really, who isn’t?), you’re wait appears to be coming to an end. That’s right, the much anticipated Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome series now has a premiere date.
However, before you get your hopes up too high, the show won’t actually be airing on a TV network or, actually, on TV at all. Well, not at first anyway. Confused?
This handy press release from Universal explains it all. Bottom line? You’ll be able to see the show online first and then on Syfy and then on Blu-ray, etc. So, that’s a good thing.
LOS ANGELES – November 5, 2012 – Universal Cable Productions (UCP) will launch for the first time a three-tiered windowing strategy including online, TV and home entertainment, for Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome, a spinoff of the blockbuster Battlestar Galactica series franchise. Fans will first view Blood & Chrome when it premieres exclusively on Machinima’s premium channel, Machinima Prime (YouTube.com/MachinimaPrime), beginning November 9. The initial online debut introduces the latest segment of the revered TV series franchise to a new generation of fans while also launching the multi-platform strategy.

With not even one season under its belt, SyFy has decided not to renew the struggling Battlestar Galactica prequel Caprica for a second season. Not only that, they will stop airing episodes immediately and the remaining five for this season will air sometime in 2011 and, you would imagine, be included on any eventual DVD release.
“We appreciate all the support that fans have shown for Caprica and are very proud of the producers, cast, writers and the rest of the amazing team that has been committed to this fine series,” said Mark Stern, Syfy’s EVP of original programming. “Unfortunately, despite its obvious quality, Caprica has not been able to build the audience necessary to justify a second season.”
Never a ratings hit, the show debuted with relatively low ratings at the beginning of the year and once it returned for the second half of the season, the ratings were even lower. In fact, the show had only 889,000 viewers and a 0.4 rating with adults 18-49 so speculation about cancellation began almost immediately. Now, that speculation is proven correct.
Even with the show’s cancellation, there’s still one bright spot for fans of the BSG Universe. As we mentioned previously, SyFy still has plans to go forward with at least a pilot for another BSG prequel called Blood and Chrome. This show, which will deal with a young Willliam Adama during the first Cylon war, will hopefully fare better than Caprica.
So long Caprica, we hardly knew you.

Excellent news for fans of the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica that were disappointed when the show ended its run on SyFy a couple years back, a new show called Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome is coming that’s sure to make you happy. This new show, which we mentioned previously as just a possibility for the web, has now been given the greenlight for a two hour pilot by the powers that be at SyFy.
In case you forgot or didn’t hear about this new show before, it deals with the young years of Ensign William Adama as he begins his journey through the first Human Cylon war. It takes place between the events of the first BSG series and those of the currently running show Caprica and is being produced by David Eick.
While this is good news for fans of the show who wanted more, one question remains. Will this new show be given the treatment it deserves or will it, in fact, be a web show as was previously reported? Obviously, we would prefer a full blown series with all that entails instead of a web series. Not that we have anything against web series, we certainly don’t.
However, if we have a choice we would prefer the show to be much like the previous BSG series and have that kind of budget and scope. A two hour pilot seems like a promising start so I guess we’ll find out soon enough what’s going to happen. In the meantime, we’ve always got our BSG complete series on Blu-ray.
Check out the full press release from SyFy after the jump.
