A little while ago we showed you a long form debut trailer for the film Cloud Atlas, directed by the Wachowski’s and Tom Tykwer. The film looks stunning and has an incredibly talented cast, but the story looks to be rather complex and even in over five minutes of trailer time many were left confused.
Thankfully the theatrical trailer has finally made its way to the internet, which attempts to sell a more wide audience on a story that has layers on top of layers on top of layers. The new trailer has been essentially cut in half from the previous internet clip, but it still manages to shove in a few new stellar shots to intrigue those who already caught the first preview.
Of course losing two and a half minutes of time means certain elements will be lost on the general public. Few people will probably be able to tell the basic narrative structure, which the long form preview only just barely was able to convey. Also potentially under sold in this version is just how many good actors are in this movie, I mean Hugh Grant and Hugo Weaving are barely even in the trailer at all.
Still, it is smart to get a more digestible version of the trailer out there, and you can check it out after the jump.

After watching this five-minute long trailer the question still lingers, what is Cloud Atlas? We do know that it is the new film from co-directors Lana & Andy Wachowski and Tom Tykwer, and it is based on the novel by David Mitchell. Other than that, the whole thing still seems undefined, unless of course you read the book.
Mayhaps the official synopsis can help shed some light on the this very interesting looking new film:
“Cloud Atlas” explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future. Action, mystery and romance weave dramatically through the story as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution in the distant future.
So it is sort of like The Fountain, but just much more broad in scope, and make no mistake, the trailer promises some incredible scope. We mentioned yesterday when discussing the Life of Pi trailer that 2012 is shaping up to be an incredible year. Having a film like this blind side us the very next day seems to cement that point.
Check out the absolutely stunning trailer after the jump, and you can find out for yourself exactly what Cloud Atlas is October 26th.

Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis have been offered the lead roles in the Lana and Andy Wachowki directed Jupiter Ascending. The Warner Bros project’s plot has been kept under tight wraps.
This is the first major science fiction film franchise that the Wachowkis have been involved in since The Matrix. Just like The Matrix trilogy, Jupiter Ascending is an original creation by the duo.
Channing Tatum is becoming a formidable leading man, particularly with his back-to-back box office successes The Vow and 21 Jump Street. Mila Kunis is also a strong draw as she is coming off of Black Swan and Friends With Benefits. She is also set to star in two much anticipated films in the Seth MacFarlane directed comedy Ted and the Sam Raimi directed Oz: The Great And Powerful.
The Wachowskis have just finished production of the film Cloud Atlas. The Wachowskis hadn’t directed a film since the craptastic 2008 film Speed Racer. The duo were trying to find financiers for a different film script last spring. It was for a hard-R drama they wanted to direct about a gay relationship between a U.S. soldier and an Iraqi. Unfortunately for them, they had no luck finding the funding. There is speculation that the Wachowskis are doing this project for the purpose of funding this other project.
The Wachowskis are using the billions of dollars that the Matrix trilogy pulled in to get Warner Bros excited about this new project . The film is on track to start production later this year.
