Okay, we’ll admit it. At first, when he showed up in director Timur Bekmembetov’s Wanted as the young assassin in training, we didn’t care all that much for James McAvoy. But over the years, he’s really grown on us.
In fact, his take on a young profesor Xavier in X-Men: Fist Class is one of our favorites. Now, McAvoy is in a new movie called Filth, based on the Irvine Welsh novel.
The movie features McAvoy as a bigoted and corrupt cop who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Sounds good. We expect nothing less from the guy who wrote the novel Trainspotting.
Also in the movie are Imogen Poots, Jamie Bell, Joanne Froggatt, Eddie Marsan and Jim Broadbent. Filth is set to hit the UK in Septmenber with a US release to follow.
Check out the trailer after the break.

Well, if the Wachowski Siblings ever wash out of the movies, they can always turn to knitwear. Their inimitable line of deconstructed post-Apocalyptic Steampunk sweaters, wraps and bodysuits made a big impression in its debut—1999’s The Matrix—and continues strong in their brand new Cloud Atlas collection. Fans will find the irregularly rustic stitches, bold asymmetry, and moody hand-dyed Neo-Gothic palette they love, cast in intriguing new shapes. Tom Hanks’ hooded cape and Susan Sarandon’s stone- and macrame-ornamented dress with matching fingerless wristlets are particularly arresting.
Which is to say that Art Direction is as important in the epic, sweeping, wildly ambitious Cloud Atlas as it has always been in the Wachowski oeuvre, as obsessively thorough and as effectively world-making. The movie is based on a 2004 novel of the same name by David Mitchell, a book so bulky and complex it took several years for the movie’s three directors—the Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer of Run Lola Run—to work out the script and logistics.

After watching this five-minute long trailer the question still lingers, what is Cloud Atlas? We do know that it is the new film from co-directors Lana & Andy Wachowski and Tom Tykwer, and it is based on the novel by David Mitchell. Other than that, the whole thing still seems undefined, unless of course you read the book.
Mayhaps the official synopsis can help shed some light on the this very interesting looking new film:
“Cloud Atlas” explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future. Action, mystery and romance weave dramatically through the story as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution in the distant future.
So it is sort of like The Fountain, but just much more broad in scope, and make no mistake, the trailer promises some incredible scope. We mentioned yesterday when discussing the Life of Pi trailer that 2012 is shaping up to be an incredible year. Having a film like this blind side us the very next day seems to cement that point.
Check out the absolutely stunning trailer after the jump, and you can find out for yourself exactly what Cloud Atlas is October 26th.

Harry Potter has been a generation defining cinematic event. Never before has a film franchise gripped the collective imaginations of so many for nearly an entire decade. Since 2001 there have been 8 Harry Potter movies, all of them have been well received, some are bordering on classic of an age. Today Warner Bros. released the latest and likely last trailer for the final chapter.
Apple has the new trailer and it delivers on just about every note. Showcasing large battles, epic moments and even some love sprinkled in for the ladies, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is primed to be the most exciting Potter movie yet.
The trailer plays heavy on the idea that this is not just the last movie in a series, but it is the finale of one the biggest things ever on the big screen. There are elements of past films in the trailer that really sell the notion that something bigger than a standard blockbuster is at play here. Also seeing as many of the side characters as possible getting screen time in the trailer is such a fitting way sell the best cast fantasy franchise this side of middle earth.
Check out the trailer after the jump.

Mike Leigh’s newest, Another Year, opens with a bit of a red herring, if so we may call the grim visage of the stonily unhappy Janet (played by frequent Leigh collaborator Imelda Staunton, star of Vera Drake). For a minute it looks as though we’re doomed to two hours stomping through the misery of Janet’s life, which she ranks at her counselor’s probing as a 1 on a scale of 1 to 10 for happiness. And lord knows, such a film would be no surprise from Leigh.
But thankfully, we never see or hear of Janet again, and the life we stay with and get to visit, at seasonal intervals over the length of a gently passing year, is that of Gerri, the sympathetic yet clear-eyed counselor, and her genial geologist husband Tom. And gradually it dawns on one that Mike Leigh, who has certainly never shied from harsh story lines, has for this movie chosen that rarest and unlikeliest of subjects — that rarest of entities too — a happy and contented marriage.
