Geek: Every Ray Harryhausen Creation In One Awesome Video

Clash-of-the-Titans-Original-Medusa

It was a sad day when visual effects master Ray Harryhausen passed away. His work inspired so many generations of filmmakers and delighted millions of fans around the world. His vision and passion will be missed.

Fortunately, his vision will live on through his tremendous body of work. Speaking of that work and the amazing creatures Harryhausen created and brought to cinematic life, one enterprising YouTube user named Mat Bergman has put together a video highlighting each and every one of them.

That’s right, the video shows every one of Harryhausen’s amazing creations. It should also be noted that the Master didn’t work with a large team of people to create his vision. No, he manipulated each and every one of these creates himself, by hand, one small movement and one frame at a time.

Yeah, he was pretty bad ass. Check out the video after the break.

We’re gonna guess not that well. For almost everyone.

Good News Zombie Fans, ‘World War Z’ Isn’t Just A Misguided Blockbuster This Summer

world-war-z-banner

Do you remember the lead up to John Carter? How most people had a big problem with the marketing but many held a faint glimmer of hope that remained until the first reel ran in theaters opening weekend. Yeah, World War Z wishes it was generating that kind of reaction.

Basically, all of the worst parts of the bible would be an upgrade over the current approval rating of the upcoming PG-13 zombie epic. The stench of the film has been brewing for years, delays and behind the scenes instability have not provided any faith of a good adaptation of a book that is already hard to envision in cinemas. The problem is the structure of the book, it is an oral history not a linear narrative, and no one understands how a Brad Pitt saves the world film was the best that could be done.

So consensus is the film will be a terrible, no good, very bad adaptation and the best we are hoping for is a fun diversion wearing a WWZ pelt for warmth. Of course this leads to all the bitching and moaning about how the film’s existence is an affront to the loyal book fans who deserve better. Well cool your jets book worms and hipster wanna bes, there is a silver lining to this story and it alone more than justifies the looming horror of the upcoming film.

‘Doodle Jump’ for the Kinect Coming This Summer

Doodle Jump Kinect Logo

When you look at the XBox Kinect it is pretty easy to list off its successes. The Gunstringer. Fruit Ninja Kinect. The Dance Central series… and that’s it. While there were numerous Kinect releasing, only a few really brought the promise of the hardware to life.

And like Fruit Ninja Kinect, another piece of software that originated on iOS is making its way to the XBLA for the Kinect with Doodle Jump. Unlike Fruit Ninja Kinect though, we aren’t exactly sure how Doodle Jump is going to fair with its change of control. Fruit Ninja Kinect was kind of a no brainer to let players replace their finger motions with swipes of their entire arm.

Doodle Jump Kinect sounds like it is going to require players tilt their body in the same way they tilted their iPhone on the original game. In addition, various arm gestures will help them shoot, fly and perform various other functions. After seeing how well the Kinect reacts to simple tasks when watching Netflix, I still have my doubts.

When it comes picking a cast for your indie comedy, you can’t do much better than the one director Maggie Carey has assembled for her film The To Do List. This one is a who’s who of upcoming and established comedy talent.

It features Aubrey Plaza, Johnny Simmons, Bill Hader, Alia Shawkat, Sarah Steele, Rachel Bilson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Donald Glover, Scott Porter, Andy Samberg, Connie Britton and Clark Gregg and tells the story of “close friends and a special summer project, loosely inspired by the real-life adventures of first-time writer/director Carey.”

The movie is set in 1993 as valedictorian Brandy Klark wants to shed her uptight image before college, so she assembles a to do list of all the “activities” she missed out on in high school. “Quickly realizing that she’s way out of her depth, Brandy solicits her best friends, older sister and burnt-out boss for their help and advice. If the group is going to complete the list by September they’ll need plenty of imagination and very open minds.”

The To Do List arrives in theaters on July 26th. Check out the trailer after the break.

Tech: Gmail App for iOS and Android Updated

new-gmail-ios-1

If you haven’t already heard the news, the email wars are over and Google won. Gmail is the dominate email address and platform that most people use. In fact, we’re not sure we know anyone who doesn’t have a Gmail account.

Fortunately, those who do don’t usually have to decide between using an iOS or Android-powered smartphone to get their email on the go. There’s plenty of other reasons for the debate between Android and iOS, but thankfully Google doesn’t make you choose — at least where email is concerned.

Today the Gmail apps for both iOS and Android got an update. Both updates feature the new “Categories” tabs as well as the usual bug fixes and performance improvements.

Here’s what you specifically get in the new iOS version:

• New notifications options: Get notified for all messages, only important messages, or none at all, on a per account basis. Customize these settings from the in-app settings page.

• Meet the new inbox: If you’ve enabled the new inbox, your mail is now grouped into categories so that you can see what’s new at a glance and decide which emails you want to read when. Primary mail is shown first and it’s easy to access and keep track of email in other categories by opening the menu. Configure this feature by going to Gmail.com on your computer.

This Is What Your XBox One and PS4 Games Might Look Like

amd-invincible-1

It used to be all Intel all the time and the little chip maker that could, AMD, seemed like it was being left in the dust. Well, how things have changed.

AMD is supplying both Microsoft and Sony its new A Series-based Jaguar APU to power both the XBox One and PS4 in a deal said to be worth over $3 Billion. That’s a lot of APU chips folks.

But why is AMD getting all that money from both of the gaming giants? Well, to demonstrate, AMD has released a trailer called “Be Invincible” to showcase the capabilities of said APU.

In it you can see there’s a whole lot of pixels being pushed and a whole lot of math going on, two things APU need to be good at. Fortunately, this one is. In fact, the graphics look pretty damn amazing.

But heck, why don’t you just look at them yourselves after the break. Kudos AMD, kudos.
