The Flickcast – Page 93 of 1030 – Stuff Nerds Love

Is Vin Diesel Groot or Just a Troll?

A select few saw, and most only heard about, the first peek at Guardians of the Galaxy when it was given at Comic-Con and part of the cast appeared on stage including Dave Bautista, Chris Pratt and a recently shaved headed Karen Gillan. But even though Drax, Starlord and Nebula were represented, there were a few characters vital to the Guardians of the Galaxy roster that were not present, notably Rocket Raccoon and Groot. Now while we weren’ t expecting to see a walking and talking raccoon and tree combo take the stage, it was possible that their voice actors could have shown up, but that wasn’t the case.

Yesterday, the internet nerd community went crazy with rumors of Vin Diesel getting the role of Groot. While it has been known that Diesel had spoken to Kevin Feige, it was said that Disney and Marvel might not be using him any time soon. Well this didn’t mean anything to the internet after Vin Diesel briefly changed his Facebook cover image to that of Groot for a few minutes before changing it back to an image of himself shortly after.

(On a side note, can someone tell Vin how douchey it looks that half of the images he has used for cover images on Facebook were pictures of himself featuring his own quotes?)

D23 Expo 2013: Tom Hanks is a Perfect Walt Disney in ‘Saving Mr. Banks’

SAVING MR. BANKS

Saving Mr. Banks is more than a movie about bringing Mary Poppins from the page to the screen. It is a tribute to Walt Disney and his incredible team of filmmakers.

The biographical drama follows the journey of adapting P.L. Travers’ Mary Poppins books into the feature film we all know and love. Emma Thompson plays a lovely stoic and proper Mrs. Travers. She is the perfect contrast to Tom Hanks’ enthusiastic Walt Disney.

Exclusive clips shown during D23 presented a film that is both entertaining and poignant. The movie is the first time an actor as portrayed Disney in film but Hanks is more than up to the task. He brings Disney’s signature warmth and excitement to the screen with ease.

D23 Expo 2013: Reviewing New Thor and Captain America Footage

thor-movie-photo-39-550x366

This could be the end for Jane Foster. Exclusive footage from Thor: The Dark World shown at the D23 Expo revealed Thor’s lady love is infected with a mystical disease that leaves even the Asgardians baffled. In addition to replaying the trailers and first looks from San Diego Comic-Con last month, Marvel unveiled new clips from both the upcoming Thor sequel and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Neither scenes are available online yet so here is what you missed.

Jane Foster’s (Natalie Portman) fate remains uncertain as a team of Asgardian healers examined her. Knowing that Earth’s doctors would be unable to help her, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) brought Jane to his home world. But his father, Odin (Anthony Hopkins), does not like having the human in Asgard so he sends guards to remove her.

Jane’s infection is not going to go lightly though and it pulses out a wave of energy that knocks the guards back. What could the infection be? Thor and Odin are as clueless and we are.

Check Out Corey Vidal and Shay Carl’s ‘Vlogumentary’

Vlogumentary

Only five days after hitting the web, the Vlogumentary trailer is approaching 800,000 views. The documentary about video blogging is directed by Corey Vidal, and executive produced by Shay Carl. The two veteran vloggers released the trailer during a main stage presentation at last week’s VidCon 2013 to thunderous applause and plenty of tears.

Vlogumentary, which was previously titled I’m Vlogging Here, looks to be a poignant and honest portrayal of the impact of web video. The film explores the beginnings of many of the most popular YouTube channels as well as the art of vlogging.

Prominent YouTubers such as John and Hank Green (Vlogbrothers), Grace Helbig (Daily Grace), Toby Turner (Tobuscus) and many more are featured alongside dozens of lesser-known vloggers. Vlogumentary is set to release later this year.

Take a look after the break.

Guilty Pleasure: ‘Rage Quit’

Rage Quit Cover Image

No need to sugarcoat it. Every one of us has our guilty pleasures. For some its watching a cartoon that was never really that good. For others it is dumping tons of cash on a new collectible.

And for some of us, it is watching and enjoying something we know we shouldn’t. Rage Quit, which is available on the Rooster Teeth YouTube channel, is one such example. In essence, there is nothing I should like about watching episodes of Rage Quit. High pitched screaming and hordes of swearing while watching someone else fail at a game. Why would that be entertaining?

It’s not because of maturity. It’s not because of a cheap laugh. It’s because Michael Jones represents how so many of us feel but doesn’t have to hold it in. For the most part, I want to scream at my screen and flip the hell out as a game gets more and more frustrating. And often the more frustrating it gets, the louder I want to scream. But I don’t.

I don’t because I don’t want my roommate to complain or my parents to kick me out of the house or the girl I am seeing to think I am a lunatic. So I just turn the game off. Imagine all that pent up rage with the inability to turn a game off because you know at minimum your video needs to be at least five minutes of useable footage. Enter Rage Quit.

Here’s a Preview of ‘American Horror Story: Coven’

American-Horror-Story-Coven-1

American Horror Story is one of those shows that was a surprise to us. When we first heard about it, we weren’t really all that interested. It just seemed, well, a bit too cheesy. Then, we watched.

That’s pretty much all it took to get hooked on Ryan Murphy’s horror/drama on FX. And with each season, the show just gets better and better.

So far on the series we’ve seen ghosts and other evil spirits, an insane asylum complete with serial killers, nazis and the devil, aliens and a whole lot more. So what’s next?

Well, if this preview (and the title of the next series) is any indication, what’s next is witches. But even though that’s pretty much assured, we can bet that witches won’t be the entire story.

We can look forward to a whole bunch of twists and things that go bump in the night. American Horror Story: Coven premieres on FX in October. Check out the preview after the break.
