Another week, another brand new episode of The Flickcast. In case you’re wondering, this makes an unbroken streak of six episodes in a row for the new year. High five!
On this week’s show, Chris and Joe talk about a whole bunch of stuff including the news that Spider-Man is making a return to the cinematic Marvel U, the return of The Walking Dead, the Agent Carter series, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., origin stories and reboots, the seriousness of Star Wars fans, Jon Stewart leaving The Daily Show, the awesomeness of the beeper and a whole lot more.
Picks this week include Chris’ pick of the David Mamet film Redbelt and Joe’s pick of the man himself, Jon Stewart.

After a move to a new day and time and some personal problems last week, the boys are finally back with a brand new episode this week! That’s right, it’s another new episode of The Flickcast on its new day: Wednesday!
And yes, as we said before, it’s still the same great show, just on a new day. So, let’s get to it.
This week Chris and Joe take on some new topics including the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer, the Marvel universe, the (potential) death of Nick Fury, a Black Widow movie, the return of Heroes and 24, what makes a movie star, some Oscar predictions and a whole lot more.
That’s right, the ever-present more. And, 11% more sincerity this week. Yes, we’re trying.
This week’s picks include some awesome stuff. You’ll just have to listen to find out as we’re too lazy to put them here. Besides, it would ruin the surprise.

Even though we don’t really care all that much who or what wins an Academy Award, the rest of Hollywood does. It’s also likley many of you care as well.
So, in that spirit, here’s a list of the nominations that were announced this morning. There’s a lot of them and, to put it bluntly, not that many surprises. The movies and performances that seem “Oscar-worthy” were nominated. It was kinda a no-brainier year.
Of course, there’s also a few regulars who made the cut, like Meryl Streep, you would expect to see on the list. One notable exception is Tom Hanks, who seemed to be a shoe-in for a nomination for his role as Captain Phillips. He got nothing.
I guess every Oscar nominations list needs at least one surprise, just to try and keep it interesting and prove the Oscar voters don’t just vote for whomever or whatever wins a Golden Globe. Of course, Hanks didn’t win the Golden Globe either, but I’m sure it was just a pleasure to be nominated.
Anyway, here’s the nominations list (stolen from the folks at Deadline):

For the moment, Matt Smith is still The Doctor in Doctor Who. We won’t know who will replace him on the iconic series until later this year (Our picks are either Chiwetel Ejiofor or Helen Mirren).
However, even though he’s still on the show, that hasn’t stopped the actor from making a Love Actually-style video thank you to his friends on the show and the fans.
As you know, Smith will appear in the 50th Anniversary Doctor Who special in November and then regenerate in the Christmas special. He’s currently co-starring in Ryan Gosling’s debut as a director called How To Catch A Monster.
Check out the very nice video after the break.

Let’s take care of this right away. If you cannot move beyond a really ridiculous plot in a movie, don’t bother going to see Salt. If you are the type of person to give such things a pass, you might have a pretty good time at Salt.
It’s common knowledge that the lead role was originally intended for Tom Cruise, but the role was then rewritten for Angelina Jolie, who plays a CIA operative who may or may not be a double agent.
The film opens with Evelyn Salt (played by Jolie) being brutally interrogated in North Korea. Stripped to her bra and panties Evelyn lies on the ground while being beaten and keeps iterating “I am not a spy,” over and over. The scene sets up two key points. Evelyn demonstrates how tough she is, and how well she can lie.
She is finally released to American authorities and tearfully confesses to her boyfriend that she works for the CIA. He doesn’t care, and the two get married.
