There are few franchises that garner the fan support quite like Star Trek. Trekkies, or Trekkers to some, are a loyal group of fans who have embraced the franchise in it’s many incarnations. Most of the stars of the shows and movies become fixtures at Star Trek conventions, but never before have the five television Captains appeared together onstage at a convention.
Well according to a Reuters report that is all about to change in London:
Organizers for “Destination Star Trek London” said on Monday that their fan convention would be the first official “Star Trek” live event in the UK for 10 years.
To mark the occasion, actors William Shatner (Captain Kirk), Sir Patrick Stewart (Captain Picard), Avery Brooks (Commander Sisko), Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway) and Scott Bakula (Captain Archer), who have commanded operations in each of their respective series based on the iconic TV franchise that began in 1966, will appear on stage together.
Recently William Shatner wrote and directed a documentary called The Captains, where he tracked down and interviewed each of the Trek captains. If the gathering in London is half as intriguing as that was this will be a tremendous experience. There is a really compelling allure to the idea of these iconic actors coming together to discuss the roles that came to define most of them (Bakula being the notable exception, he will always be Dr. Sam Beckett first).
Hopefully this event will be recorded and made available for those of us who can’t make it to London for this rare occasion. If for no other reason than to see what that kooky Avery Brooks will do live on stage.

Another WonderCon has come and gone. This year was slightly different than any year previous as this was the first time that WonderCon was held in Anaheim, CA and not its typical home of San Francisco.
Many people I spoke to enjoyed the change in venue, and liked the added space that the Anaheim Convention center seemed to provide.
One of the best things coming away from a comic book convention is the chance to look at pictures of the costumes, ruffle through your free swag, and watch fun videos captured around the convention. Enjoy them all after the jump.

You may not know her name, but I bet you have seen one of her videos.
Jessica Mill is the star and creator of Awkward Embraces, a web series about three nerdy girls working their way though the dating world of Los Angeles. The series has become popular among the “nerd” culture. Jessica herself has become a “nerd” icon on Twitter and Tumblr due to her frequent posts and nerdy sense of humor.
It was at WonderCon 2012 in Anaheim that I talked to Jessica. She reveals the details about three new web series she is working on including Damsels and Dragons. A new web series about a girl LARP (live action role playing) group that she is creating with Greg Aronowitz, designer of The Guild.
Watch my full interview with Jessica Mills below.

This past weekend marked the very first year for Wizard World’s Big Apple Comic Con. Though some may be confused, this show has nothing to do with New York Comic Con, nor the legendary San Diego Comic-Con. This is a new brand established by Wizard, which has been making waves across the country in places like Boston, Anaheim, and Chicago.
This past weekend was quite interesting in terms of turn-out for a first year show. Friday was OK, but Saturday and Sunday had a fair share of fanboys and fangirls roaming the con floor. You can always tell how good a con is by the amount of costumed heroes and heroines, and you can see for yourself after the jump, that they all came out of the woodwork for the show.
There wasn’t much to be said about programming. There were maybe a dozen panels over the three day period, most of which were just Q&A’s with names like Jim Lee, Joe Quesada, or William Shatner. There was also a fair amount of celebrity presence at the show, at least more than other NYC shows. Many names like Michael Hogan of Battlestar Galactica, Miracle Laurie of Dollhouse and even Billy Dee Williams were in attendance, and we even got a few one-on-one interviews with them to bring you later on.
For now, check out a photo recap of this weekend after the jump.
