It’s a brand new episode of The Flickcast. And this time, we’re not alone.
That’s right, this week Chris and Joe welcome special guest Jason Inman. He’s an author, host, comic book writer, podcaster and Army veteran. Plus, he’s a great guy.
The three discuss Jason’s life growing up in Kansas, his time in the military and the development of his love for comics and writing. They also discuss other things including DC versus Marvel, Star Trek, first video game consoles and Jason’s dislike for Klingons.
They also talk about social media, fandom, the treatment of women in comics and entertainment and dealing with things during this weird time. They also get into life, family, the search for toys, talking to your kids about starting a YouTube channel and the first time he saw his comic for sale in a store.
WARNING: This episode contains discussions about COVID-19, mental health and quarantine. We understand not everyone is in a place to talk about or hear discussions surrounding these issues. Please do what’s best for you. Stay safe everyone.
As always, if you have comments, questions, critiques, offers of sponsorship or whatever, feel free to hit us up in the comments, on Twitter, Instagram or, yes, even Facebook. Or shoot us an email. We don’t mind.
We’re back baby!

Con Season 2016 has begun! With everything from PAX East this upcoming weekend all the way to Comikaze in October, the best half of the year is underway. In an effort to best cover these, The Flickcast has made sure I have appropriate credentials to get on the floor (or at the least, a map of where all the best bars and parties are) at each convention.
First, I headed to WonderCon as a part of The Flickcast team and Whiskey & Waffles. At the event, I had four very important ‘jobs’:
1. Speak on the SKYBOUND panel about digital video creators
2. Take the Mighty Wallet Challenge
3. Snag one of Loot Crate’s 2016 Convention Exclusive Crates
4. Cosplay as Hawkeye

The Con Season has officially begun! E3 is already in the bag and this past weekend JC ventured to the halls of Anime Expo all by himself. Not being the biggest anime fan, outside of Attack on Titan or Neon Genesis: Evangelion, JC doesn’t know much about what lies within the walls of AX 2015.
Luckily for JC, he isn’t alone as he found his friends from Mega64 to help him on his journey. Rocco, a man of few words, lets pictures explain his feelings of the event and Garrett explains the majesty of fur suiters. In addition, Spry Cooper of OGeeku shows up too but adds even more confusion.

Scarily enough, Comic-Con in San Diego is already on its way. Pre-registration is done. Media credentials are due soon. And the mad rush for tickets and hotel rooms will soon be upon us all.
But unfortunately, there are some people who have not gotten to experience San Diego Comic-Con for themselves. So to help let you know what it’s like, we’ve put this together.

This being my first year in Los Angeles, I am able to go to a lot of events for the first time. Even though I sadly missed New York Comic Con since it started, I have been able to attend things like WonderCon, VidCon and will be attending my first Stan Lee’s Comikaze. I always love my first time at a new con and this one looks like it is going to be an awesome one. I have a bunch of friends hosting and appearing on panels, there look to be some awesome exclusives on the floor and I will be attending a con for the first time officially as a panelist.
First off, I’ll take care of my shameless plug. I am going to be on the panel for That Cosplay Show. With my job, I have been lucky enough to get in touch with so many people in the cosplay world that they invited me to be on their panel. (No, I will not be in cosplay for it.) The panel will take place Sunday, November 3rd at 11 AM in room 308AB. The description reads: ” World premiere of a new series called “That Cosplay Show,” A totally unreal look at the lives and challenges faced by those who strive to emulate their favorite super heroes starring Khary Payton, Grant Imahara, Stephanie Lemellin, and Chloe Dykstra.”

Unfortunately due to prior commitments, I was only able to make my way down to the New York Comic Con this year for preview night. While it was great to be able to take to the floor and not be mowed down by waves and waves of people, part of what makes a Con great is being surrounded by your fellow geeks. But even though it wasn’t the storm of crazy that usually envelopes the show floor by Friday or Saturday, there was still tons to see at the Con.
In the gallery below, check out some of the great booths from the show as well as some early cosplayers. One thing that stood out this year at NYCC is just how much video games were represented. PlayStation came in with a booth the same size as their San Diego setup including a huge diorama for God of War: Ascension. Meanwhile, Nintendo had two areas set aside: one for the 3DS and one larger area featuring both Wii U and 3DS titles. Not to be outdone, Microsoft came in with their biggest gun, Halo 4 which boasted a 45 minute to hour wait time on the least crowded of the show days for one round of multiplayer.
Take a look at all NYCC had to offer after the jump and we will try our best to find some more photos from the show floor from the rest of the weekend if at all possible!

While we didn’t get a chance to make it to Dragon Con this year, we did hear the stories. We heard about some pretty epic cosplay and even saw tons of pics, but nothing would have prepared us for this. Shot by the team of Micah Moore, Black Faucette, Justin Reich and edited together by Micah, this is the definitive Dragon Con video.
For those who have never been to Dragon Con, it is a multigenre meeting of the geeks that draws over 50,000 in attendance to Atlanta, GA each year. Every year, Dragon Con earns a reputation for some of the top cosplay in the nation, even sometimes surpassing that of San Diego Comic Con in high quality costumes. In its 26th year, Dragon Con keeps getting bigger and bigger.
In the video after the jump, Micah and the rest of his team from BeatDownBoogie.com use a remix of “Real Hero” from the film Drive to show off the unparalleled level of dedication and fandom of the attendees for this year’s Dragon Con. It’s videos like this that make us proud to be geeks.

Costumes are a big part of the Comic-Con experience every year in San Diego. Whether or not you decide to wear one to the show, you are inevitably going to be crossing paths, taking pics of or posing with people doing some kind of cosplay. And since this is the world of comic, anime and gaming cosplay, a lot of those costumes revolve around weapons.
Now while you’d think that Comic-Con would be the safest place to be when the zombie bath salt apocalypse breaks out because it is filled with weapon equipped geeks who have spent more hours training for such an event (i.e. watching Night of the Living Dead, reading the Walking Dead and playing Dead Rising), this might not be the case in 2012.
Comic Con International has sent out an updated set of guidelines for costume weaponry this year. Here is the full release from Comic Con International on the specifics:

Another WonderCon has come and gone. This year was slightly different than any year previous as this was the first time that WonderCon was held in Anaheim, CA and not its typical home of San Francisco.
Many people I spoke to enjoyed the change in venue, and liked the added space that the Anaheim Convention center seemed to provide.
One of the best things coming away from a comic book convention is the chance to look at pictures of the costumes, ruffle through your free swag, and watch fun videos captured around the convention. Enjoy them all after the jump.

You may not know her name, but I bet you have seen one of her videos.
Jessica Mill is the star and creator of Awkward Embraces, a web series about three nerdy girls working their way though the dating world of Los Angeles. The series has become popular among the “nerd” culture. Jessica herself has become a “nerd” icon on Twitter and Tumblr due to her frequent posts and nerdy sense of humor.
It was at WonderCon 2012 in Anaheim that I talked to Jessica. She reveals the details about three new web series she is working on including Damsels and Dragons. A new web series about a girl LARP (live action role playing) group that she is creating with Greg Aronowitz, designer of The Guild.
Watch my full interview with Jessica Mills below.

As always, one of our favorite parts of any convention is the sights and NYCC was full of them this year so we had to share them with the Flickcast audience. The level of dedication by the men and women who attend the con every year is staggering.
Some are picture perfect renditions that rival movie quality costumes like the Anakin Skywalker we saw wandering the floor. Others come from careful collection of legitimate television costumes and props like the classic Power Rangers Green Ranger. Still others take their own imagination and run wild with custom Mandalorian battle armor for both human and giant chicken alike to life sized Castle Crashers.
One of the things this gallery sadly doesn’t do justice is give an idea on just how huge NYCC was this year. Though it is yet to overtake the surrounding neighborhood like SDCC does, the New York Comic Con feels every bit as big and as important as its west coast counterpart.
The entire Javitts Center was filled with every major comic company to movie studios and video game publishers in every corner. This year the Flickcast was only able to spend a day on the Con floor but if things keep looking up for NYCC, we may have to tackle this show the same way we do San Diego Comic Con or E3.
Take a look below to get just a glimpse of the many sights at this year’s convention. See you next year New York!
