This week on The Flickcast, Chris and Matt are again joined by video game guru John Carle to discuss all manner of new and interesting topics. Some of these include Jason West and Vince Zampella joining EA Games, Conan heading to TBS, the oddness of Viva Pinata, the usefulness of the website Game Crush, the fun to be had at the website Girl Gamer, the awesomeness of Michael Ironside, instant Netflix on the Wii, Ryan Reynolds in Paper Man and the future of digital comics on the iPad and other devices.
Plus, the guys made some picks this week, as usual, including John’s pick of Kick-Ass, Matt’s pick of the movie Defendor and Chris’ pick of the new HBO series Treme.
Also, they announced the first winner of The Flickcast Mailbag contest and a new prize for this week’s question: a copy of Defendor on DVD. Remember, to win just send a question on pretty much any topic to mailbag [at] the flickcast dot com and if we answer your question on the show next week, you win. What could be easier than that?
As always, if you have comments, questions, critiques, offers of sponsorship or whatever, feel free to hit us up in the comments, on Twitter, at Facebook and MySpace or via email.

While most comic fans are getting ready for this Friday’s release of Kick-Ass in theaters, they can get into the average-guy-superhero today, as the indie super hero flick Defendor hits DVD stores everywhere.
The film stars Woody Harrelson as a regular guy-turned night crusader. Also starring is Kat Dennings, Elias Koteas, and Sandra Oh. It’s got a great message, some funny moments, and a tone that’s very reminiscent of classic Batman stories.
We recently got a chance to sit down with Nicholas Tabarrok, producer of the film, and he shed some light on Defendor, as well as where he and writer/director Peter Stebbings plan on taking the character from here.
The Flickcast: For those who aren’t aware already, what can you tell us about your new film, Defendor?
Nicholas Tabarrok: It’s about a regular guy (Harrelson) who read comic books as a kid. Kind of a slow guy who lives in a bit of a fantasy world, and he thinks that he’s a super hero. So he’s got a homemade costume and homemade weapons, and at night he goes out there and patrols the streets looking for bad guys. All he wants to do is help people and do some good.

Back in September, we brought you word of an indie superhero flick out of Canada making some waves at the Toronto Film Festival. It looks like the film has now grown in popularity and moved South, as it’s getting an official DVD release with Sony Pictures, and a limited theatrical run as well.
The film stars Woody Harrelson as a mentally disturbed man named Arthur Poppington who decides to take justice back in his city and fight crime as the masked avenger, The Defendor. The film also stars Kat Dennings, Sandra Oh, and Elias Koteas, which rounds out the cast to a pretty decent level.
Either way, Harrelson’s performance has gotten rave reviews, and will be hitting New York and Los Angeles in a few months to coincide with it’s April 13th release date on DVD.
The studio amped up the marketing with a new trailer, which you can check out after the jump, thanks to our pals at Trailer Addict.

Woody Harrelson seems to have had some pretty good luck with roles in his long career — especially lately. From playing the undead-bashing hero in next month’s Zombieland to the crazy conspiracy theorist in November’s 2012, Harrelson has accumulated 18 film roles in the past three years alone. It looks like Woody is finally taking on the world of superheroes, as he takes on the lead in Defendor.
The film was produced entirely out of Canada by actor-turned-writer/director Peter Stebbings, who’s only other film was 2008’s Jack and Jill vs the World starring Freddie Prinze Jr. The premise follows three characters, a teenage prostitute (Shorts‘ Kat Dennings) a psychiatrist (Sandra Oh) and a mentally disturbed man named Arthur who decides to fight crime as the dark crusader The Defendor (Harrelson).
With films like Kick-Ass hitting theaters and giving the general audience a glimpse at a super powerless superhero story, it makes sense that something like Defendor will do well, especially with it’s dark comedic undertones.
Check out the first full trailer after the jump. Defendor is screening at the Toronto Film Festival next week so expect to see it at your local theater soon after that.
