We’re back once again with an all-new episode of The Flickcast. Four weeks in a row! This close to Christmas! The record is building once again.
On this week’s episode Chris and Joe discuss a bunch of new and recurring topics. Some of these include names of the new Star Wars characters, much more on the Arrow, Flash and Agents of SHIELD winter finales, a bit on the Sony hack and a whole lot more, more, more.
We should also mention we were scheduled to have an interview in this week’s episode, but due to circumstances, that wasn’t possible. So, this episode might be a bit shorter than usual. Sorry.
Picks this week include Chris’ pick of the novel Half a King by Joe Abercrombie and Joe’s pick of the Blu-ray version of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes that’s just come out.

After a week off for the 4th of July holiday, we’re back with a brand new episode of The Flickcast. And you thought we’d forgotten about you. Not likely.
On this week’s show Chris and Joe talk about a lot of different things, as usual. Some of these “things” include the recent Emmy nominations and the worst snubs, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the latest on Doctor Who, more on Guardians of the Galaxy and a bunch of other stuff.
Chris and Joe even make a bet on the opening weekend box office for Guardians. What did they think? Well, you’ll just have to listen to find out. Saw that coming, didn’t you?
Picks this week include Chris’ pick of director John Hillcoat’s Lawless and Joe’s pick of the wonderful, and sadly soon to be extinct, 35mm film.
As always, if you have comments, questions, critiques, offers of sponsorship, or whatever, feel free to hit us up in the comments, on Twitter, at Facebook, Google+ or via email.

The apes are back and there’s gonna be trouble … Yes, we like songs. We also like movies where apes run amuck and kick a lot of ass. Fortunately, we won’t be disappointed with the upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. It’s got all that, and more.
In this sequel to 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Cloverfield director Matt Reeves brings us the beginnings of the war between man and ape. Our money is on the humans. We cheat.
Look for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes to drop on July 11. The trailer is after the break.

On day two of WonderCon, Fox did its best to take over the convention in Anaheim. The studio showed footage from several of its upcoming films and politely remained mum on Director Bryan Singer’s recent legal troubles.
The clip from X-Men: Days of Future Past, which included a faceoff between Iceman and Sunspot, certainly excited audiences in the Anaheim Convention Center’s Arena. Fox slyly avoided audience questions by saving X-Men to the end of the presentation. In truth, fans had already gotten their fill of footage and Q&A from the other movies’ cast and crew.
Perhaps trying to answer the YA smash hit The Hunger Games, Fox now has its own teen post-apocalyptic movie in The Maze Runner. Director Wes Ball and author James Dashner were both inspired by Ender’s Game, Lord of the Flies and Lost when creating The Maze Runner and it showed in the brief but thrilling preview seen in Anaheim.

The recent reboot of Planet of the Apes was actually pretty good. Yeah, we were surprised too. Naturally, Fox is back with a sequel and there’s a first trailer out today.
The amazing Andy Serkis is, of course, back as Caesar. The also amazing Gary Oldman is in the cast too as the leader of the human survivors of a virus that’s decimated the planet.
In the film, the humans and apes are working together but soon, that truce is put to the test as events unfold pitting human against ape in a struggle to determine who will survive to rule the earth.
Our money is on the apes. Hail Caesar!
Check out the trailer after the break. Look for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes to hit theaters on July 11, 2014.

Even with all the news of Marvel and Disney today (don’t worry, Chris and Joe will talk all about it in the podcast this week), we can’t forget other things dropping today. One of these things is a brand new trailer for Robocop from Sony.
The reboot, directed by Jose Padilha, stars The Killing‘s Joel Kinnaman as the detective-turned-crime-fighting cyborg. Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Abbie Cornish and Jay Baruchel co-star.
Look for it to arrive on February 12, 2014. Uh oh, February. Let’s hope that release date doesn’t mean what we think it could mean.
Anyway, check out the trailer after the break.

The final installment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy comes out next week. It’s a bittersweet time to be a Batman movie fan because although we’re looking forward to the movie, its the last one Nolan is going to do. So yeah, we have mixed feelings.
Anyway, there’s a new clip from The Dark Knight Rises that’s been released featuring Gary Oldman and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The clip is called About That Night and features some good info to help you get ready for the big debut.
Check out the clip after the break. The Dark Knight Rises arrives on

It was hard to get behind the RoboCop reboot, it was passed around between a few good creative people and eventually landed in the hands of Jose Padilha who is a relatively unknown entity here in the states. However, once the ball started rolling with the cast the project has been gaining momentum.
We already told you about a few nice cast additions last week, which brings the supporting cast up to Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson and Abbie Cornish who join the solid Joel Kinnaman in the film. Already we have a solid cast with some geek cred and plenty of acting chops.
Things get much better though, The Hollywood Reporter has announced who will play one of the key villain roles in the movie:
Hugh Laurie is in negotiations to play the villain in Robocop, MGM and Sony’s remake of the classic 1987 sci-fi action movie… Laurie will play the evil and ultra-rich CEO of Omnicorp, the company that makes Robocop
Dr. House himself! Hugh Laurie is a fantastic actor and will really bring a lot to the table as a swarmy CEO who looks to use RoboCop for his own nefarious reasons. One other aspect of bringing in Laurie to the cast that evokes a lot of excitement is that this news might be another clue that the satirical nature of the original is not going to be left by the wayside.

The impending RoboCop remake is in an odd place. It is the perfect kind of pulpy, popular franchise that should be remade, but the original holds such a specific and dear place in the hearts of fans that it is up against a lot of fan distrust.
One way they can help assuage fan worries is to cast the film well. That is well underway as recently the movie has added the always game Samuel L. Jackson to play a prominent TV figure in the film. Those familiar with the original RoboCop know that Paul Verhoven used TV as a great source of satire that helped give the film it’s edge.
Bringing in a man like Sam Jackson for a role like that seems to infer that this new film might not stray that far from one of the originals most iconic aspects. Jackson also joins previously cast Gary Oldman has the geek cred for the film, as both have been very good in numerous geek level properties.
In addition to the Jackson casting, Deadline is also reporting that the female lead has been found, Abbie Cornish. The lovely Ms. Cornish is playing RoboCop’s wife, who believes herself to be a widow once Murphy gets all robo-fied. This could be a very interesting direction the film can take, as Murphy’s wife had been little more than window dressing in the first film. By describing the character as a female lead it is clear we will see much more of that awkward relationship status. It’s complicated indeed.
Stay tuned for more updates on this every increasingly interesting remake here on The Flickcast.

There is a few ways to make a successful trailer parody. You can play on the cliche’s of a genre, or the general practice of that genre’s trailers. You can cram in big name celebs in roles that mock their drive for Oscar bait or general shamelessness. Or in the case of Jimmy Kimmel’s newest piece of genius you can shove that all in and more.
The trailer for the woe-fully fictional Movie: The Movie features a cavalcade of stars and some sharp satire that should delight anyone and everyone.
Highlights of the piece include Matt Damon’s grapes, black Hitler falling to earth on a meteor and of course Dame Helen Mirren in a hover craft. There is tons to chew on in the extra long trailer and even though it clocks in at close to ten minutes you might be compelled to watch it more than once.
If there is any justice in the world some one will fund a feature length Robo-Lawyer film staring Academy Award Winner Tom Hanks, but with our luck all we are going to get is a baby Kevin James and baby Jason Bateman buddy comedy.
Take a look at the hilarity after the jump.
