Video: New Promo For ‘True Blood’ Season Six Arrives

tru-blood-season 6-1

With former and current hits like The Sopranos or Game of Thrones, it’s nice HBO hasn’t forgotten about its other series. In particular, a little one called True Blood that’s done pretty well for itself.

So well, in fact, that the show is about to return for its sixth season. And yes, we’ve got a brand new promo for that season to share with you today.

In it you’ll see a lot of what to expect from the coming season. It’s also interesting to see how the show is going to progress given that creator Alan Ball has moved over to do Banshee on Cinemax.

The show returns on June 16 for a ten-episode run. Yes, that’s a bit shorter than usual, but don’t worry, we’re sure it will be just as good.

Check out the promo after the break.

Kickstarter Watch: ‘A.N.N.E.’

Kickstarter Watch - A.N.N.E.

Nostalgia for retro lifestyle can go two ways. There are those things we fondly remember that when we revisit them they don’t seem to hold up. See the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES as a prime example of something you sunk probably years of your life into only to realize years later that it is a pretty terrible game. But there are others that withstand the test of time and whether it’s 1985 or 2085 are still going to be great games. Games like Castlevania, Super Metroid, Gradius, Super Mario Brothers and others stand that test of time. So it’s no wonder why someone would take the chance at going back if given the chance.

A.N.N.E. is that chance. A.N.N.E. is the brainchild of Moise Breton, the founder of GamesbyMo. With 10 years in developing, A.N.N.E. is Moise’s first time focusing on his own project that combines concepts behind some of the above mentioned titles with bright and vibrant Fez-styled graphics. As you’ll see in the trailer below, the game has a unique feel as it transitions from ship based combat to puzzle solving to exploration and ground skirmishes. And it doesn’t just feel like retro graphics but full on gorgeous pixel art style animation on top of the mashup gameplay.

Monday Freeview: ‘Robot Unicorn Attack 2’

Robot Unicorn Attack 2 Cover Image

Sometimes we find some real hidden gems that have lots of thought and effort behind them for the Monday Freeview. These games have teams of hundreds working on them to create persistent MMO worlds or an ever expanding cast of unique characters… and sometimes we find Robot Unicorn Attack 2.

A sequel to one of the most popular Adult Swim games to make it to iOS, Robot Unicorn Attack 2 is an incredibly simple game. Players hit one side of the screen to jump (and double jump) and the other to dash. That’s all you get for controls. While the game has special boosts that can be purchased with in game currency, the basic nature of this runner style game is an addicting premise.

By giving players attainable goals, the game keeps leaving the bread crumbs to keep going “just one more time”. Additionally, a single game is divided up into three runs called “wishes” (keeping with the unicorn theme) so that a player gets in the routine of going just a little bit further and having to continue to the next run. By the time the third wish is complete and awards are given out, it doesn’t take much for a player to commit to three more.

Movie Review: ‘Iron Man 3’

im3

The Avengers has come and gone, and now we get to see Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) dealing with the trauma he apparently experienced in New York. He has insomnia, and it strains both his work on the latest Iron Man suit as well as his relationship with Pepper (Gwyneth Paltrow). His bodyguard Happy (Jon Favreau) is now head of security for Stark Industries. And, all around the world, there’s broadcasts from a strange terrorist figure named “The Mandarin” (Ben Kingsley).

The movie opens with Stark recounting a New Year’s Eve party way back in 1999. He’s at a conference in Bern, trying to bed a buxom botantist, Maya (Rebecca Hall) before the year’s turnover. He’s interrupted by pimply geek Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce), who’s trying to start a think tank and wants Stark’s help. Stark blows him off, and if the use of Guy Pearce didn’t already suggest it, Stark states outright that it was the beginning of trouble.

Thirteen years later, Aldrich shows up at Stark Industries, again seeking support, though he does seem more interested in rubbing everyone’s nose in his success. He has created a new whatsit kind of technology called “Extremis” that allows the brain to regenerate tissue…and, somehow, make the patients melt things with their hands. (Dr. Curt Conners from the latest Spiderman films is going to be smacking his head with his tail when the inevitable crossover comes.)

The Flickcast – Episode 209: Big In Japan

godzilla! This week on The Flickcast, Chris and Matt try to keep it a bit more civil and, well, almost succeed. They also manages to discuss several new topics (and a few old ones) including Mark Millar’s love of digital comics, new Pacific Rim trailer, the new Wolverine trailer and what Summer movies they are most looking forward to seeing.

They also talked about the upcoming games Grand Theft Auto V, the recently announced Call of Duty: Ghosts and how Matt loves all-things side-scrolling and hates the smell of death. And no, sadly, they don’t really go to Japan. We just thought that title was funny.

And, as usual, the boys made some picks this week with Matt’s being the side-scroller game Battleblock Theater and Chris’ being his new favorite desktop computer: the iMac from Apple.

As always, if you have comments, questions, critiques, offers of sponsorship or whatever, feel free to hit us up in the comments, on Twitter, at FacebookGoogle+ or via email.

Is This Google’s New X Phone?

Google-X-Phone-1

Even though a majority of us here at The Flickcast use smartphones made by Apple, that doesn’t mean we only care about iOS or things from Cupertino. We also like Android quite a bit too. And when a new smartphone is reportedly ready to be announced by Google itself, we pay particular attention.

That phone is the much-discussed “X Phone.” And now we’ve got a picture (or two) of it, curtesy of gadget blog Tinthe.tn, so you can see exactly what it’s all about.

From the pics we can say that the device does look a lot like other Android smartphones, particularly those from Samsung. Not that that’s a bad thing. In addition to the pics, there’s also info about the internals of the device.

TV: Check Out Gillian Anderson’s New BBC Series ‘The Fall’

We’re just so happy to see Gillian Anderson coming back to TV. No, she’s not returning to her iconic role of Agent Dana Scully of X-Files fame. At least not yet.

What she is doing is playing another investigator, this time in a BBC series called The Fall. The psychological thriller debuts on BBC Two on May 13 and all five episodes will be available in the U.S. and Latin America exclusively on Netflix starting May 28.

The series follows the lives of Anderson’s highly driven detective Stella Gibson and the sexually motivated serial killer she’s tracking in Belfast. Once Upon A Time‘s Jamie Dornan also stars along with The Good Wife‘s Archie Panjabi.

Looks pretty interesting. Judge for yourself by watching the new promo for The Fall after the break. Guess the truth is in Belfast.
