In fact, we’re pretty interested and very ready to like the upcoming movie Rush featuring Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Brühl. The international trailer for the Formula 1 racing pic dropped today.

The two actors star as James Hunt and Niki Lauda, extraordinary rivals who dominated the sport in the 1970s. Peter Morgan wrote the script and Universal has set a September 20 release date.

Box Office Report: ‘Evil Dead’ Conjures Up A Bloody Strong Debut

BoxOfficeBannerNewester

This weekend had the distinct feel of a throwback celebration with a Reboot-make, a re-release and a sequel to an 80’s iconic franchise inhabiting three of the top four positions.

Coming in at number one, with $26 Million, was the incredibly well advertised Evil Dead which played very strongly for an extreme horror film aimed squarely at a specific niche. Due, in part, to that specific audience target, the film’s reviews have been mixed and the word of mouth has been less than stellar on the whole. Still, the film plays very well to its target audience and with a big weekend under its belt will go into the books as a big win for all involved.

The next two spots ended up being an estimated tie between last weekend’s top two films. G.I. Joe: Retaliation and The Croods. Both brought in an estimated $21.1 Million, with the tie break going to last weeks number 1 because the Rock is in that one and the main event at Wrestlemania this weekend.

TV RECAP: ‘Grimm’ Episode 217 – ‘One Angry Fuchsbau’

grimm one angry fuchsbau

Our Wesen of the Week – The Ziegevolk

A man is on trial for the murder of his wife, which his own maid witnessed. His defense lawyer, however, has some kind of magic dust that he uses to sway the jury and witnesses to his side. As it turns out, Rosalee is on this jury.

Nick tells Monroe to take Juliette to the trailer, as it’s better for her and her recovery if Nick isn’t there if she remembers anything (or everything). Monroe shows Juliette the trailer, and she is flooded with images of several different Nicks all talking to her at once. It seems as if a bunch of memories are coming back to her all at once, in hologram or ghost form.

Nick receives a coded email from his mother. She says that she plans to spend the money wisely. Monroe equates it to the coins. I guess this means the coins are safe?

Movie Review: ‘The Place Beyond the Pines’

beyond1

The opening, a long tracking shot that follows motor stuntman “Handsome” Luke Glanton (Ryan Gosling), as he makes his way through the carnival, lighting cigarettes, pushing through the crowd, enterting the appointed tent, fastening his helmet, and buzzing in the cage with two others, is one of the best — and will likely remain among the best of the year. It’s an inspired choice that testifies to director Derek Cianfrance’s deliberation.

Luke is one of the major characters in this play, a distinction that he’ll share with Avery (Bradley Cooper), the lawyer-turned cop and Jason (Dane DeHaan), Luke’s son. Each of them will have their own act, with the scenes intertwining as the drama unfolds throughout 15 years. Luke will quit his job to stay with his son. He will meet a local mechanic (Ben Mendelsohn) who will teach him to rob banks.

He will be pursued by Avery. Avery will rat out some crooked cops and eventually run for office. Luke’s son will befriend Avery’s without realizing their connection. And the results of that friendship and discovery of that connection will begin the cycle anew.

Cianfrance’s previous film Blue Valentine, also with Gosling, carried a similarly morose tone and followed another meticulously logical line of unfortunate events. For all the spontaneity of many scenes — the robberies and chases especially — and improvisational (sounding, at least) dialogue, he shows an immense amount of discipline. He knows the story he wishes to tell and does in a straight-forward and hard way.

First Full Trailer for ‘Carrie’ with Chloe Moritz and Julianne Moore Arrives

carrie-chloe-moritz-1

We’ve gone down this road once before in 2002 with a remake of Brian De Palma’s classic Carrie, based on the Stephen King novel, and now it’s being done again. This time around the movie features Chloe Moritz and Julianne Moore, which helps considerably to peak our interest.

In case you’re not familiar with the story, it concerns a loner high school girl whose crazy mom and the mean kids at school eventually get the brunt of her blossoming telekinetic powers. IF you’ve even wished you could get even with someone bullying you, this is the movie for you.

We’re not sure any remake will ever be as good as De Palma’s original, but this trailer does help at least make this latest attempt look interesting enough so we want to know more. That’s something at least.

Carrie is due to hit theaters on October 18th. Check out the trailer after the break.
