The Flickcast Episode 272: Back In Business

agent-carter-haley-atwell

We hope everyone had a great holiday and took some much deserved time off. We sure did. Now, with all that out of the way, we can get back to doing what we do, well, pretty decently. That’s right, it’s time once again for a brand new episode of The Flickcast.

Yes, we know this one is coming a day late. Sorry.

On this week’s episode Chris and Joe cover many new and recurring topics. Some of these topics include the new Marvel TV series Agent Carter, the new Ant-Man teaser and trailer, the hero qualities of Paul Rudd, DC movie rescheduling (again), the new Star Wars movies and a whole lot more.

Picks this week include Chris’ pick of the classic 1960 sci-fi movie The Time Machine, starring the late Rod Taylor, and Joe’s pick of the Starz series Black Sails, which isn’t the series about pirates that sucks starring John Malkovich. It’s the other one.

‘Doctor Who’ Ends 2014 With Record Ratings

DW

The year of the Twelfth Doctor has also been the year of incredible ratings for BBC America. Doctor Who finished 2014 with its highest rated season ever including over 2.3 million viewers on Christmas Day for the special “Last Christmas” episode.

Peter Capaldi debuted as the newest regeneration of the beloved Time Lord alongside returning companion Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald. Together the duo brought in an average 2.035 million viewers in Live+3, meaning those ratings also include DVR views. Capaldi’s first Christmas Special more than doubled the viewership of his predecessor’s first such episode, “A Christmas Carol,” in 2010. The Twelfth Doctor’s “Last Christmas” was the #1 show in all of Primetime television, excluding sports.

Series 8 added fresh new twists and turns to the Doctor Who mythos including a reappearance by The Master, but not as we’ve ever seen him before. Michelle Gomez starred as Missy, a female regeneration of the Doctor’s old frenemy . Samuel Anderson also had a touching and integral turn as Clara’s boyfriend Danny Pink.

“Last Christmas” will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on February 17. Doctor Who will return for another full season in 2015.

Kickstarter Watch: ‘Perfect Dark’

Perfect Darkk IGG

Back in the N64 days, Perfect Dark was the shooter that was second only to Goldeneye and that’s probably because it was from the same developers but was a brand new IP that didn’t have the cache that something like the James Bond brand brought to the table. A generation later when the XBox 360 launched with Perfect Dark Zero alongside it and helped hold fans over until Halo made its leap to the generation.

Later in 2010, five years after Perfect Dark Zero was released, there was an XBox Live version of the original Perfect Dark. What other reason could there be for the rerelease of a classic title if not to promote a new one? And then in August of 2013, Rare said they had new ideas for a Perfect Dark game that involved the Kinect (keep in mind this was before the lackluster reception of the Kinect on the XBox One). Since then… nothing.
