TV RECAP: ‘The Walking Dead’ Episode 406: ‘Live Bait’

Walking Dead 406 Pic

It was a very different episode of The Walking Dead this week. It focuses entirely on The Governor, and what happened to him after the Woodbury incident. It felt a bit out of the blue, but it actually worked. Considering he was lurking in the bushes at the end of last week, it makes sense that it’s time to find out where he’s been.

The Governor, Martinez, and Shumpert escaped into the woods after The Governor massacred a bunch of their own people. They are camping in the woods, but The Governor awakes one morning to find Martinez and Shumpert gone. Looks like he is finally on his own. And I don’t feel one bit sorry for him.

The Governor was wandering for months, even sporting a scraggly, not too impressive beard. He finds a family holed up in an apartment. They are weary of him at first and let him stay in one of the other apartments for the night, but take his gun. It’s two sisters, their father, and a young daughter. I immediately feared that The Governor would kill two women, a child, and a dying elderly man.

For whatever reason, people find the Governor endearing. Maybe it’s the lack of human contact, but everyone seems to fall for him. His one night stay turns into helping the family in all sorts of ways. He goes into another apartment to get a backgammon game for the girl and her grandfather. He finds a gun in that apartment, so I’m assuming evil is to come.

TV RECAP: ‘Once Upon a Time’ Ep. 308: ‘Think Lovely Thoughts’

FREYA TINGLEY, JENNIFER MORRISON

In an incredibly surprising turn of events, there is once again forward momentum on Once Upon a Time! Henry’s family even finds the kid and we get a nice bit of background for my beloved Rumplestiltskin. Sadly, “Think Lovely Thoughts” is also so packed with contrivances it dulls the otherwise tasty plot developments.

Everything from Pan’s origin story (especially the source of his name) to Henry’s inexplicable stupidity made me cringe, dear Oncers. But still we carry on, so let’s begin with a flashback, shall we?

A card hustler gets beaten up and robbed after swindling one too many customers. His son tries to intervene with the help of his adorable eyes and precious Scottish accent but it’s no use. Dad is a deadbeat for poor baby Rumple.

In Neverland, Pan reminds Henry that saving magic will save Wendy and everyone else. Henry, clearly being driven by hormones and a childish fantasy to be the hero like in his fairytale book, says he’s ready to do his duty.

TV RECAP: ‘Dracula’ Episode 103: ‘Goblin Merchant Men’

Dracula - Season 1

This week on Dracula we begin with a flashback that shows Grayson chained to a pole and fighting several members of the Order. Apparently he did something to disobey them. They slit his throat, and he is surprised to wake up chained in a dungeon. They turned him into a vampire.

Grayson receives notification that the transfer of Lord Laurent’s stock to him has been finalized, and Grayson is now the majority stockholder of British Imperial Coolant. Harker and Renfield go to an office and use their newfound power to get special treatment and resources for their projects. Renfield gives Harker a list of names of people that Grayson wants him to become friendly with.

Lady Jayne visits a doctor at a mental hospital to get some drugs to help her seers. This doctor needs to get the serum from Van Helsing, who insists on knowing who it is. Grayson tells Van Helsing to give her what she wants, or else they’ll get it from someone else that they have no control over.

Lord Davenport (or it may have been the higher up that’s always talking with Lady Jayne, it’s hard to keep track of everyone) meets with Lord Laurent. He asks Laurent if there is anything he should know about the sale of the stock, or else he will face swift punishment. Laurent refuses to say anything, and will be brought before the Order.

LeonUnity Launches with Two Episodes of ‘My Life as a Video Game’

My Life as a Video Game

YouTube has more than its fair share of short form series. It also has heaps and heaps of video game content. But with the exception of a few standouts like Freddie Wong’s Video Game High School, there aren’t many great examples of gaming and short form series together.

Someone trying to change that is Petros L. Ioannou and his series My Life as a Video Game. Funded by a Kickstarter that raised $32,000, My Life as a Video Game will be a 9 episode first season that explores what happens when gamer Don DeWitt, played by Petros, gets too into the game and is pulled in to a world where games are real life.

Exploring multiple gaming genres, Don finds Kera Althorn (Jennifer Polansky) and is guided by the MENU System (Brent Black, better known on YouTube as BrentalFloss) through this pixel infused world. FPS, side scrolling beat ’em up and space combat all look to be fair game in this epic launched on Petros’ YouTube channel LeonUnity.
