This month, WallE and I got our first box shipped to Whiskey and Waffles HQ. ‘Necessary Evil’ Doc Explains Lives and Motives of DC Super-Villains

Necessary Evil-Crop

It’s not all drama, action and explosions around here, we also like to learn a little something too when we can. So, when a documentary that helps explain the motives and psyche of various DC super villains is available, we take notice.

The documentary in question is called Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics and is produced by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and DC Entertainment. It “explores the thin line between right and wrong, the nature of evil and how super-villains can reflect society’s dark side as well as our own personal fears. It also offers keen insight as to the reasons why comic book fans are so fascinated by the very characters they hope to see defeated.”

“Featuring interviews with such luminaries as directors Richard Donner (Superman), Guillermo del Toro (Pacific Rim) and Zack Snyder (Man of Steel), the film focuses on DC Comics’ most terrifying villains, including The Joker, Lex Luthor, Bane, Black Adam, Black Manta, Catwoman, Darkseid, Deathstroke, Doomsday, General Zod, Sinestro, the Suicide Squad, and more.”

Sounds good to us. Check out the trailer after the break and look for Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics on Blu-ray now.

TV REVIEW: ‘Dracula’ Episode 101: ‘The Blood is the Life’

Dracula - Season 1

If you think the picture above is rather tame and boring, that pretty much describes a huge portion of the first episode of this series. What I was expecting to be a violent horror-based show, turned out to be a surprisingly uneventful mash-up of alliances and company business.

The show begins with two men breaking into a vault and opening up a coffin. There is a skeleton inside, and one of the men begins looting the valuables. The other man stabs him and slits his throat, directing the blood into the skeleton’s mouth. Dracula is re-born!

It is 1896 in London, and for some reason Dracula has to pretend to be an American businessman named Alexander Grayson. Grayson throws a party with a bunch of wealthy townspeople. They all want to meet him, but it’s never really explained as to why. Some of the men hold patents that Grayson wants to buy for his company, but one of the men says they do not deal with Americans.

Here’s a New Trailer for ’47 Ronin’ With Keanu Reeves

reeves-47-ronin-1

Let’s just get this out of the way right now: We like Keanu Reeves. Sure, his acting may not always be, well, terrific, but he still manages to make it work and has been a big part of some of our favorite films of all time.

Next up for the actor is the fantasy/action film 47 Ronin, which from this new trailer, we can safely say looks pretty great. Here’s the synopsis:

After a treacherous warlord kills their master and banishes their kind, 47 leaderless samurai vow to seek vengeance and restore honor to their people. Driven from their homes and dispersed across the land, this band of Ronin must seek the help of Kai (Reeves)—a half-breed they once rejected—as they fight their way across a savage world of mythic beasts, shape-shifting witchcraft and wondrous terrors.

As this exiled, enslaved outcast becomes their most deadly weapon, he will transform into the hero who inspires this band of outnumbered rebels to seize eternity.

Check out the trailer after the break. Look for 47 Ronin this Christmas.

TV RECAP: ‘Once Upon a Time’ – Ep. 305: ‘Good Form’

JENNIFER MORRISON, COLIN O'DONOGHUE

So Oncers it’s time for our weekly journey in Neverland. But this time we get a little spice in our bland Once soup with the story of Killain Jones, a good sailor gone pirate. Just like everyone, his heart was broken with grief and guilt so he went to the Dark (and roguishly handsome) Side. But a certain Savior might be melting his cold, buccaneer heart after all, as evidence by that hot and way over publicized kiss. Oh also, Henry is still with the Lost Boys and Neal is, well…

Neal is in an even worse state than when we ended last week. He gets chucked into a wooden cage by the Lost Boys and is promptly forgotten for the rest of the episode.

Back in Camp Pan, a boy literally pokes Henry with a stick to make him fight back with a conveniently available wooden sword. Pan steps in to prompt Henry to believe he’s holding a real sword and TA-DA! It works! Then Henry gets carried away and cuts the Lost Boy’s cheek but don’t worry. The best thing about being a Lost Boy is you never have to apologize.

As Henry enjoys applause for his use of violence, his family is still in Neal’s cave looking for the key to his secret star map. Emma sees that Neal stopped counting his days on the island not because he left but because he lost hope. Even Hook gravelly-voiced reassurances don’t quell her concerns for Henry. She says it’s time they “take a page from Pan and start being clever.” Why wasn’t this Plan A?
