We are just a little over a week removed from learning that Edgar Wright has not one, but two new movies in the works. One seems to be a traditional Edgar Wright-Simon Pegg project, The World’s End, and the other is the potentially huge Marvel ‘phase 2’ movie, Ant-Man.
Well Mr. Wright must have been downright bored in the last few, relatively, slow years for his work. Deadline is reporting that Wright is set to direct a secret new project for J.J. Abrams:
Paramount Pictures is mobilizing a sci-fi film called Collider, and it is a collision of several of the top guys in the genre. Edgar Wright will direct the film, and he is co-writing the script with I Am Legend‘s Mark Protosevich. Wright is producing with his longtime Big Talk Productions partner Nira Park and JJ Abramsthrough his Bad Robot banner.
No word on when he plans to shoot this new sci-fi project, but the most logical assumption would be after Ant-Man. Of all these potential movies, the Marvel adventure is the only one that is likely on a strict timeline, even though it was the one and only announced film with out a release date.
Looks like Edgar Wright will be a busy guy in the next few years, we are all winners for that. Stay peeled to The Flickcast for any updates on this impressive slate of upcoming films.

It was hard to get behind the RoboCop reboot, it was passed around between a few good creative people and eventually landed in the hands of Jose Padilha who is a relatively unknown entity here in the states. However, once the ball started rolling with the cast the project has been gaining momentum.
We already told you about a few nice cast additions last week, which brings the supporting cast up to Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson and Abbie Cornish who join the solid Joel Kinnaman in the film. Already we have a solid cast with some geek cred and plenty of acting chops.
Things get much better though, The Hollywood Reporter has announced who will play one of the key villain roles in the movie:
Hugh Laurie is in negotiations to play the villain in Robocop, MGM and Sony’s remake of the classic 1987 sci-fi action movie… Laurie will play the evil and ultra-rich CEO of Omnicorp, the company that makes Robocop
Dr. House himself! Hugh Laurie is a fantastic actor and will really bring a lot to the table as a swarmy CEO who looks to use RoboCop for his own nefarious reasons. One other aspect of bringing in Laurie to the cast that evokes a lot of excitement is that this news might be another clue that the satirical nature of the original is not going to be left by the wayside.

Yesterday we told you a bit about ‘the new iPad’, Apple’s 2012 model of everyone’s favorite tablet. One of the games that was shown to showcase the pad’s amazing power was a prequel Infinity Blade.
The trailer for this gorgeous game is now online and it really sells the gaming potential of the new iPad. The original games had a redundancy built in where you had to do the same thing over and over again until you were powerful enough to win. That limited gameplay scope allowed the developers to make every little detail of the game look stunning.
Now that they have the processing power to compete with home consoles they look to have created a game that maintains the level of beauty, but expands on the gameplay. Infinity Blade Dungeons looks to be a hack and slash dungeon crawler that is better looking than any that came before it.
By branching out into a more immersive game play style, Epic Games is finally establishing this IP as the first must have gaming title on the App Store for hardcore gamers. Once that bridge is crossed, the already blurry lines between mobile and home gaming could be shattered forever.
Check out the teaser after the jump.

Timur Bekmambetov is a visionary. Most people in America don’t register that name, but in his home land of Russia he is responsible for two of the most successful and visually stunning movies ever made in that country. He made the leap to American cinema with the fantastic adaptation of Wanted, and is currently in post on Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
Bekmambetov’s visual flair is his hallmark and anything he decides is worth his or his production company’s time promises to be pretty to look at in the very least. Variety is reporting that he has picked up the novel “One Hundred Percent Lunar Boy.” For those unfamiliar with the book, here is a synopsis:
Set 2000 years in the future, novel’s protag is 16-year-old Hieronymus Rexaphin, who lives on the now-colonized moon, where he meets a girl from Earth who is inexplicably drawn to him because of his special — some say dangerous — condition, which gives him the ability to see the future path of time and matter.
It is unknown if Bekmambetov plans on directing, or if he will just produce. All we do know at this time is that the rights have been secured and a writer has been brought on to adapt. Either way this project sounds right up his alley, and should provide cinema goers with a visually exciting adventure film in the near future.

Bryan Singer is determined to relaunch a classic show from his youth. First, he was connected with attempts to bring Star Trek back to television, and more recently he has talked about rebooting Battlestar Galactica as a feature film. Well, third time seems to be the charm as a Singer directed Munsters pilot has been ordered by NBC.
The Hollywood Reporter reports:
“[The Munsters] is billed as an imaginative reinvention of the classic comedy series as a visually spectacular one-hour drama.
Singer will executive produce alongside Bryan Fuller (Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies), who also is writing the Universal Television-produced project.
Fuller and NBC first made an attempt to revive the 1960s CBS sitcom last year, with the network ultimately passing. His newer version is said to be an edgier and slightly darker take exploring origins of Herman and Lily Munster (originally played by Fred Gwynne and Yvonne De Carlo) and how they arrived at the famed 1313 Mockingbird Lane address.”
Singer does have good experience in the TV world, he also executive produced and directed the pilot of the hit show House. However, it is the other executive producer that inspires the most intrigue from us. Bryan Fuller’s Pushing Daises was an incredible show, packed with larger than life characters and situations. If anyone can turn The Munsters into a “visually spectacular one-hour drama,” odds are Fuller is that man.

Recently film music legend John Barry past away. It was a great loss for the film score community, Barry wrote some of the most well known themes and scores of all time during his career. Most people know Barry most for his work on a large number of James Bond movies, but me personally, my favorite score is from the undereducated Disney film The Black Hole.
The guys over at Intrada Records have recently struck a deal with Disney to release some of their more classic scores and thankfully the need for a fully restored The Black Hole was high on their priority list. Beyond the quality of the score itself, the music for this movie has historical significance:
John Barry’s score was the first digitally recorded soundtrack in motion picture history and was recorded using the 3M Digital Recorder. The format was used sparingly for several years until technology moved on, and due to its limited use, finding working machines had become quite a challenge some 30 years later.
Randy Thornton’s producer’s notes chronicle the entire odyssey through the investigations and trials until successful transfer of the 32-track digital elements, with simply stunning results. Now The Black Hole is presented in complete form with a striking clarity not heard previously.
This new release is available now from Intrada’s website.
