Op Ed: Wrestling is Cool Again

Fast 5

The idea for this editorial came shortly after catching up on Raw on my DVR. Despite being in the era where Raw has turned from a two-hour, weekly Lifetime movie for men into a three-hour Greek epic with Tout™ ads I’ve come to a realization: It’s cool to watch pro wrestling again.

No matter what “era” of wrestling you’re a fan of, there are a few recognizable details that pro wrestling needs to push it from relative obscurity to pop culture significance: fresh faces, exciting action, old favorites, and a household name to tie it all together. And only recently have the stars aligned to provide all four to the WWE Universe.

Those of us old enough to remember the Hulkamania era sometimes talk about the intervening years as if it were the Great War. And in some respects, it was. Once Vince McMahon’s Hulkamania bubble burst, it was on to the lean years of the New Generation. Stricter federal regulations and drug testing meant that lean was taken in the literal sense. The biggest stars of that era were either smaller, more technical workers (Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels) or naturally big stars (The Undertaker, Diesel).

Kindle for iOS App Bug Can Erase Users Content from Devices

kindle-ios-app-1

Using an iPhone or iPad to read books via Amazon’s Kindle App? If so, you will want to hold off on upgrading to the latest version of the app, which was released on Tuesday. That is, if you don’t want your content accidentally erased from your iOS device.

Don’t worry, even if this does happen. the content is still safe in Amazon’s cloud. What it really means is that Kindle app on your iOS device will be reset and you will have to , basically, start over again from scratch by entering your mazon account information and then downloading your content again.

“We have identified an issue with the app update that may cause your app to become deregistered,” an Amazon spokesperson said. “To register, enter your Amazon account e-mail address and password and all your Amazon content will be available in the cloud. We have submitted an update fix for this issue and are working with Apple to release.”

Bummer. At least, if this does happen, all your content isn’t permanently gone. It’s more of a pain than a catastrophe.

Check This Out: A ‘Wonder Woman’ Trailer Made As It Should Be

ww-jesse-johnson-1

Sometimes, when things in Hollywood are going too slow or the powers that be just can’t seem to get their shit together, somebody has to step up and take charge. In the case of a big screen Wonder Woman movie, that somebody is director Jesse V. Johnson.

Frustrated with the lack of progress on a studio adaptation of the beloved DC Comics character, Johnson decided to assemble a group of collaborators and make a trailer for a Wonder Woman movie he wanted to see. The result is pure action-packed, ass-kicking fun.

We hope Hollywood is watching. Check out all the action after the break.

‘Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’ Leaked

Assasin's Creed IV - Black Flag

Earlier this month, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed that there would indeed be a new Assassin’s Creed title released in fiscal 2014 (April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014) from the publishing giant. He also noted that it would be taking place in a new location with a new lead character as well.

After the ending of Assassin’s Creed III, many were speculating if this only meant Connor being replaced or if the modern day Desmond would be on the chopping block as well. Well, speculate no longer it seems.

Yesterday gaming news site Kotaku reported a leaked marketing image and the name Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. The image shows a hooded assassin character holding a sword in one hand and pistol in another while surrounded by pirates. This would fit right in with Yves’s statement about a new hero and location.

Complete ‘Mad Max’ Trilogy Coming to Blu-ray In June

mad-max-gibson-1

Great news fans of post-apocalyptic action, the entire Mad Max trilogy is finally hitting Blu-ray this Summer in one awesome box set. That’s right, all three movies, including Mad Max, The Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome, are getting the Blu-ray, box set treatment.

There’s no word yet on what special features the trilogy box set will contain, but you can bet it will likely have lots of behind-the-scenes goodies, making-of videos, photos and more for you to enjoy. Plus, expect interviews with the filmmakers and probably Mad Max himself, Mel Gibson, to grace the set too.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Mad Max or The Road Warrior have graced a Blu-ray release. This is, however, the first time Beyond Thunderdome has and is also the first time all three movies have been put together and given this kind of box set treatment.

So, if you’ve been waiting for an excuse (and an opportunity) to get all three of these great movies on Blu-ray, looks like this might be a great time to do it. The collection is currently priced at $49.99 and will hit store shelves on June 4th.
