SDCC13: ‘Psych: The Musical’ and Dream Therapy Coming in Season 8

psych-musical-1

There is plenty in store for the 8th (and maybe final) season of USA Network’s Psych including a James Roday directed episode and new and old guest stars. Plus the long-awaited Psych: The Musical will finally air on Sunday, Dec. 15. In all, this season showcases “the most inventive things we’ve done yet,” said Executive Producer Steve Franks.

The short clip of the musical shown during the panel is proof enough that Psych-Os are in for a good ol’ fashion song and dance from their favorite detectives. In fact, some lucky San Diego Comic-Con fans were treated to a special screening of the musical Wednesday night. “I am so excited to see it because these guys they know how to sing and dance,” said moderator and guest star Cary Elwes. “Forget acting; they’re the triple threat.”

Another big announcement is the results of the fan vote, which was held to determine what episode to add to the season. The winner is Dream Therapy, officially titled “Nightmare on State Street,” where Gus undergoes dream therapy to understand the cause of his night terrors. Making the episode extra special, Roday will be directing. “It’s the last episode that we’re shooting, so I want to go out with a bang no matter what,” he said, hinting that this season may indeed be the end.

SDCC13: Hey Kids, It’s Electro

electro-jamie-foxx-1

Comic-Con is in full swing in San Diego so expect all manner of news, photos, video and more coming from the show. We’re taking a more low-key approach this year but we’re still going to have a few bits and pieces that interest us and, of course, you.

Speaking of interest, how about a video teasing the new villain for the upcoming Spider-Man sequel? That villain?

Why, it’s none other than Electro, of course. And yes, that’s actor Jamie Foxx behind all the make-up and high-voltage. Shocking? Yes, yes it is.

Check out the video after the break.

Here’s A New Trailer for Ron Howard’s ‘Rush’ With Chris Hemsworth

rush-chris-hemsworth

Formula One racing isn’t as popular here in the States as it is in other countries. We have Nascar and that seems to be enough for a lot of people.

However, the new movie Rush, directed by Ron Howard and starring Chris Hemsworth, just might change people’s minds about Formula One. A new trailer for the film is out today and in it we get all the amazing racing action we would expect.

Plus, there’s a lot more of the human drama that chronicles the rivalry between 70’s racing legends James Hunt (Hemsworth) and Niki Lauda (Daniel Bruhl). And what a rivaly it was, back in the days when cars were fast, winning was everything and safety was an afterthought.

Also in the film are Olivia Wilde and Alexandra Maria Lara. Look for Rush to arrive on September 27. Look for the trailer, as usual, after the break.

It’s Benedict Cumberbatch as Julian Assange In ‘The Fifth Estate’

Fifth-Estate-Cumberbatch-1

One of the more controversial happenings of the last few years was the Wikileaks scandal. Naturally, there’s going to be a movie.

In said movie, called The Fifth Estate, Benedict Cumberbatch stars as WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange along with Stanley Tucci and Laura Linney. The film is written by Josh Singer and based on the books “Inside WikiLeaks” and “WikiLeaks.” It’s directed by Bill Condon.

There’s a new trailer for the movie that’s come out today. No surprise, Cumberbatch is pretty great in it (funky hair and all), even though it’s just a trailer.

Look for the movie to arrive in theaters on October 11. Check out the trailer after the break.

Kickstarter Watch: ‘Headlocked: The Last Territory’

Headlocked Cover Image

The Headlocked comic once quoted me, “An intriguing take on an industry that is just as drama filled behind the scenes as it is on television.” Years later and seeing all the work that has gone behind Headlocked, I still hold that to be true. Michael Kingston has created the quintessential wrestling story ithough never being a wrestler himself. Though there are some parts nitpickers may try to poke and prod at, it has come a hell of a lot closer to the wrestling world than any WWE or WCW comic ever did.

With two months time, Kingston has given himself the Kickstarter goal of $16,000 with over $2,000 coming in during the first 24 hours to help fund the second story arc of the comic entitled Headlocked: The Last Territory. Meant to be enjoyed as a continuation of the story or read on its own, Kingston describes Headlocked: The Last Territory:

Here’s a New Poster and Video For Gareth Edward’s ‘Godzilla’

godzilla-comic-con-poster-crop

We are happy to say we knew director Gareth Edwards before he was picked to direct Legendary’s reboot of Godzilla. But now that he’s a big time director, he doesn’t seem to have lost his sense of humor and still has time for the fans.

In fact, he took time out of what must be a very busy schedule to record a video teaser for Godzilla’s appearance at Comic-Con in San Diego this week. There’s also a new poster to commemorate the event as well.

Check out both after the break. We can’t wait to see what Edwards does with this classic monster. If you’ve seen his previous movie, aptly titled Monsters, you shouldn’t have any doubt his take on Godzilla will be very cool indeed.

Box Office Report: You Failed!

despicable_me_2_minions-wide

We had a pretty neat opportunity over the weekend film going audience. Pacific Rim, a phenomenal summer block buster that didn’t rely on existing IP, was going up against the scourge of cinemadom, Grown Ups 2.  A win for the former could signal a turning point in the battle between lowest common denominator and inventiveness. Instead Grown Ups made more than it’s predecessor and Pacific Rim settles for 3rd place. We all screwed the pooch on this one people.

But before we get into that, lets give props where props are due. Despicable Me 2 continues its dominating run by coming in first place against both newcomers this weekend. The $44 Million dollar weekend represents a great 46.4% drop proving that the interest in Gru and his minions is not as front loaded as some had suspected. The movie is homing in on mega-hit territory and should finish it’s run well over $300 Million.

But that’s not why we are here people.

Coming in second place was Grown Ups 2 to a total of over $42 million. I think we might now have that pesky question to the life, the universe and everything Douglas Adams wrote a whole lot about. How many millions are people willing to fork over opening weekend to a lazy, low brow ‘family comedy’? 42!
