The Flickcast 313: And, We’re Back

the-revenant-leo

You’ve waited and you’ve waited and, well, you’ve waited some more. We’re sorry about that but, you know, things happen. At least we weren’t attacked by a bear. So there’s that.

The important thing to keep in mind now is: we’re back baby! Back with a brand new episode of The Flickcast!

You’re right, it is a great time to be alive.

On this week’s show Chris and Joe get right back into it with more discussion about Star Wars: Episode VIII, the X-Files, a Punisher TV series likely coming to Netflix, sexisim and racism in Hollywood and a whole lot more. No, don’t worry, the boys don’t get too political on this week’s episode. It’s just about the fun.

Picks this week include Chris’ pick of the film The Revenant, directed by Alejandro Iñárritu and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom hardy, and Joe’s pick of Aaron Trotter’s Brewery Playing Cards.

Kickstarter Watch: ‘Truly Outrageous: A Jem Fan Film’

Jem Fan Film

The recent Jem & The Holograms feature film is not what anyone would call successful. With an estimated $5,000,000 budget and a worldwide gross of only $3,000,000 it could be argued that the team behind the film really missed the point. That’s exactly what the all girl YouTube group known as CreatureTubes felt when they released a Jem Reacts video with the original cast reacting to the new feature film.

After a positive response to their video (and likely more viewers than the movie garnered, the group decided to take a step in a positive direction and instead of looking at what didn’t work and focus on creating what they feel should have been the Jem film. But since no studio is going to touch that property for a good decade, the girls are turning towards Kickstarter to make it happen.

The Dilettante’s Guide to ‘The Force Awakens’

rey-the-force-awakens

By now all the fanboys, fangirls and fanpersons have seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens with just my fellow ambivalents and dilettantes left checking the matinee prices and hoping the theatre sells beer. Although I have probably seen OG Star Wars at least 50 times, I never bothered to watch the prequel trilogy. Not interested.

I was also pretty meh about The Force Awakens, until I saw a preview, had my “Oh shit” moment and realized this was the true and honest SEQUEL to Jedi we’ve been waiting for. Suddenly, I cared.

Still, I’m just a Star Wars fan, not a Star Wars FAN. I couldn’t tell you the name of the cantina from A New Hope, or the names of any planets besides Endor, Tatooine and Alderaan. But I’m a child of the 70’s and 80’s so Star Wars is part of my canon. Unlike FANS, though, it’s not part of my blood.

With that in mind, I give you the dilettante’s guide to The Force Awakens (complete with some potential spoilers, so beware).

It’s Friday again (well, Saturday if you’re being technical) and time for a new episode of The Flickcast. Sadly, this isn’t an episode devoted entirely to the new Star Wars movie. That will have to wait until next week.

It is, however, a damn fine episode. Here’s what you can expect from it: Star Trek: Beyond!, X-Men: Apocalypse!, Independence Day: Resurgence!, Mr. Robot Season Two! And a whole lot more! Don’t worry, we’ll stop using exclamation points now . . .until next time.

Picks this week include Chris’ pick of the Showtime Documentary The Spymasters: CIA in the Crosshairs and Joe’s pick of the Syfy Channel mini-series Childhood’s End, based on the classic novel by Arthur C. Clarke. But if you don’t want spoilers, might want to wait to click on that link after you’ve watched.

got-js-season-6

It’s Friday again and if you’re not out trying to score a new big screen TV or some other deal fro Black Friday, we’ve got something for you: a new episode of The Flickcast! The best part? It’s absolutely free and you don’t have to wait in line or get into a fistfight just to hear it. You’re welcome.

On this week’s show Chris and Joe spend quite a bit of time discussing the new Jessica Jones series on Netflix. They also cover the upcoming Lost in Space reboot (also on Netflix), DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (coming soon to the CW), the current status of Glenn on The Walking Dead and Jon Snow on Game of Thrones, Supergirl, Misery on Broadway and a whole lot more.

Picks this week are unanimous in that both of your hosts picked Jessica Jones. Not a surprise, however, ’cause it’s a really good show. You should check it out.
