Have you ever played any of the Devil May Cry franchise? If so, then great – you might enjoy the backstory that you get out of this comic. If not, then both the plot and the structure of the comic itself will likely confuse the Devil Trigger out of you. Hang on with me here.
First, Some DmC Background:
Devil May Cry is a video game series that was initially intended to be a continuation of the Resident Evil plot line, but became its own franchise due to the focus on fast-paced, stylized combat. The game follows Dante, a “devil hunter” who is the son of the demon Sparda and the human Eva. Sparda was a powerful demon knight who served Mundus, the king of the underworld.
Mundus strove to reign over all of humankind, but Sparda chose the path of justice, defeating Mundus and sealing off the underworld. In an act of revenge, Mundus sent demons to kill Sparda’s family. Eva hid 8-year-old Dante and his twin brother, Vergil, and died at the hands of the demons. To protect his sons, Sparda wiped their memories and sent them into the human world to grow up and live “normal” lives (yeah..right).
Now that we’re all on the same page, let’s get to the pages of this comic, shall we? I’ll tell you the gist of the story, and then I’ll dish out the good and bad. DmC is Kinda Weird, and the Comic Continues the Weirdness.

Way back in November, Capcom already announced the first batch of DLC coming for Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Jill Valentine and Shuma Gorath would be on their way to the roster. Last week, coinciding with the game’s actual release, Capcom announced another set of DLC. This time, much in the vein of Super Street Fighter IV, it is new costumes. Now we know what you are thinking. Why would you care about a different colored pair of jeans on Haggar or an alternate paint job on the Sentinel. Well there we would agree with you.
But this isn’t just any set of alternate costumes. Six characters will receive new attire. Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Chris, Ryu and Dante. Instead of just being fresh coats of paint on existing templates, these are entirely new costumes being added to the game.
Captain America will be given what Marvel fans have affectionately coined the Captain Steve outfit. As the world’s new top cop, Steve Rogers Super Soldier doesn’t hide behind the mask anymore. Instead he has a more modern costume. Interestingly enough, Capcom chose to give him the classic Cap shield though instead of his current comic weapon, a light disk shield.

A year and a half ago, we came home from San Diego Comic Con and were given the chance to review the XBox Live Arcade rerelease of one of our top games of the previous decade with Marvel vs. Capcom 2. The game was an instant hit and was quickly brought over to the PlayStation 3 as well.
It’s not surprising that soon after, seeing the game’s tremendous success, that Capcom announced Marvel vs. Capcom 3. With a super stylized trailer, the hype hasn’t died down. Even last week at release, it was almost impossible for players to get a hold of the Special Edition of the game, a problem not usually seen in retail anymore.
As we have talked about with our previous hands-on experience, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 brings the series’ classic feel and action back with a shiny new coat of graphical paint and effects that players expect and demand.
Gameplay:
Marvel vs. Capcom 3: The Fate of Two Worlds doesn’t change the formula that brought Marvel vs. Capcom 2 so much success. The game relies on single round matches between two 3 on 3 teams. Players have three basic attacks of increasing strength, their special attack button, and two assist buttons. These assist buttons can be used to either call in teammates for a quick attack or to switch the character the player is in control of for the fight.
As players throw more attacks and successfully defend against their opponents, they increase their combo meter which builds at the bottom of the screen to unleash Hyper Combos. These hyper combos are special moves that can deal tremendous damage if successful.
This simple control scheme allows for all levels of players to enjoy the game. Expert players will learn advanced combos, juggling and snap backs to eliminate their opponents while newer players will be able to feel like they are setting off tremendous attacks even by just button mashing.
It is an interesting dynamic compared to other fighting games where experience will almost always prevail. While it may be frustrating for an “expert” to get beaten by a lucky combination from a “newbie”, it also makes the game more exciting that outcomes aren’t always so predetermined in multiplayer.

With E3 comes big announcements for big franchises. The biggest fighting game franchise war has begun with two new trailers being released for Marvel vs. Capcom 3: The Fate of Two Worlds and Mortal Kombat. Previously, we had shown you the first character trailer for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 which introduced us to a new generation of visuals for Ryu, Wolverine, Iron Man, Morganna, Chris Redfield and the Hulk.
Now, Capcom has sent out an updated trailer for E3 featuring two new company icons being added to the game’s roster. First, Marvel drops their rising star Deadpool in to the game. Thus far, Deadpool has never made an appearance in a fighting game. While he has played a part in action RPGs like X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse, Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 as well as the Wolverine: Origins movie tie-in game, he will be given a whole new level of mayhem in the genre that looks tailor-made for the Merc with the Mouth. Guns, swords, hand to hand combat and smack talking his opponent, it just screams Deadpool.
Capcom, not being slouches either, have added Dante from the Devil May Cry franchise to the series. Dante matches up perfectly as the adversary for Deadpool as his games revolve around sword and gunplay. And he may be the one person who can drive Deadpool even crazy with his calm, cool and collective personality that Deadpool’s quips may have no effect on.
Also just in are screen shots from the event which reveal Captain America and Felicia, both from the previous Marvel vs. Capcom 2, as being playable characters as well.
Check out the updated E3 Trailer and screen shots for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 after the jump.
