I’ve had, for some time, the suspicion that the current comedy troop of Rogen, Hill, Cera, and Franco would eventually get to the point where, instead of a script, they would just sit around and talk. Now we have This Is the End, and if this isn’t the logical conclusion of the gang’s comedy, it’s damn close.
The premise is that Jay Baruchel is in LA to visit his friend Seth Rogen. Their friendship has been on the skids, and Rogen’s insistence that they attend a party at James Franco’s house instead of, I don’t know, hang out and smoke weed. doesn’t help. At Franco’s they meet up with Craig Robinson, Jonah Hill, and several others within or slightly out of their group’s ever-expanding radius, such as Aziz Ansari, Mindy Kaling, Martin Starr, Chritopher Mintz-Plasse, and now, I guess, Emma Watson.
Freak disruptions start to occur all over the place — sinkholes swallow up many of the party-goers, others are lifted to heaven in columns of blue light, fires explode across Hollywood, and the five find themselves barricaded in Franco’s house — until Danny McBride shows up and makes their sixth.

April Fools Day is usually a day that brings tons of fake news, including trailer releases (like that Legend of Zelda trailer that will never be made into a movie *sadface*). But this year, April 1st was the release date of the red band trailer for the unbelievably star-packed action comedy This Is The End starring James Franco (who has had an already packed 2013 with the release of Spring Breakers and Oz The Great and Powerful), Seth Rogen, Emma Watson, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, Jay Baruchel, Craig Robinson, and that’s just the supposed “main cast.” From just watching the trailer, expect appearances by Michael Cera, Rihanna, Kevin Hart, Aziz Ansari, Jason Segel, Paul Rudd, Mindy Kaling, and more. Holy freaking casting!
The main plot of the movie is simple: James Franco is throwing a kick-ass party and invites all his friends (because celebrities always party with tons of other celebrities) to have a crazy good time. Until the apocalypse happens. Los Angeles is engulfed in fire and brimstone, monsters and aliens are running rampant, people are looting and killing, mass hysteria basically.
Eventually, the main cast barricade themselves in what’s left of Franco’s house and try to survive. At one point, Emma Watson breaks in with an ax (a freaking AX) to try her hand at some looting, which looks to be successful based on the apparent self-testimonial video that is shot by the guys who are documenting what’s going on during the end of days.

Even with Battleship already out in theaters in other countries, there’s still time for the big PR push to keep on going in the US of A. Case in point is this new clip from the movie which debuted last night on MTV.
In it we see some of our men and women of the Navy get their action on and try to attack and alien space ship. We also get more of our favorite cast in action as well.
One thing this clip does prove is that machine guns don’t really have much effect on giant alien ships and those aliens are not to be trifled with. We could have told you that.
UPDATE: As a bonus, we’ve also got another clip for you which just arrived in our mailboxes. Enjoy.
Check out the new clips after the break. Look for Battleship, directed by Peter Berg and starring Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgard and Rihanna, hits the US on May 18.

If toys make an effective inspiration for movie franchises, why not games? After all, regardless of its relative creative merits, the Transformers franchise has managed to make a metric crapload of money.
So, why not try to do the same with a movie based on a classic game? It could work. That’s just what director Peter Berg and his team have done with the upcoming Battleship. To prove it, we’ve got the first trailer for the film for you right now.
In it we get a lot of the film’s story of a young, upstart naval officer (Taylor Kitsch) in love with his Admiral’s daughter (Brooklyn Decker) who needs to put aside his personal feelings and learn to be a man when an alien invasion threatens his fleet of ships. The movie is, of course, based on the classic board game Battleship and from the trailer, it actually looks like director Berg gets that he’s making a movie based on a game, is in on the joke and doing his best to make it a fun and exciting film.
When I first heard they were making a movie based on Battleship, I was, to say the least, skeptical. After watching the trailer I’m now intrigued, especially as to how Berg and company are going to pull it off. Who knows, maybe they can?
Check out the trailer after the jump. Battleship, which stars Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgard, Brooklyn Decker and Rihanna, arrives in theaters on May 18th, 2012.

Activision has released two new pop themed DLC packs, one for DJ Hero and another for their Guitar Hero series, and headlining both is the ever outrageous Lady Gaga. Lately Activision has been embracing the popularity of Gaga as they have also had her song “Just Dance” as the focus of the DJ Hero 2 trailer that was released just in time for E3.
For DJ Hero, the Dance Party Mix Pack will include three mashups exclusive to the DJ Hero series. First will be a mix of Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance” along with the 80’s classic “Girl’s on Film” by Duran Duran. In addition, R & B vixen Rihanna lends her voice to DJ Hero as well with a beat juggle of her Top 40 hit “S.O.S.” while the lovely ladies of the Pussycat Dolls’ “Buttons” also makes a beat juggle appearance as well. Trailers of all three songs can be viewed after the jump.
Meanwhile on the Guitar Hero side of things, people’s living room garage band will finally be able to play Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance” (not a remix or mashup) with the Pop 1 Track Pack. Joining her will be one of Maroon 5’s earlier hits “This Love” and recent synth pop anthem “Fireflies” from Owl City.
The DJ Hero Dance Party Mix Pack is available on Xbox Marketplace for 640 Microsoft Points and the PlayStation Store for $7.99. All mixes are available as singles for the Wii for 300 Wii Points each.
The Pop 1 Track Pack will sell for 440 Microsoft Points on the XBox 360, $5.49 on the PlayStation Store and 550 Wii Points. All songs will be available individually for 160 Microsoft Points, $1.99 and 200 Wii Points respectively.
Check out previews of the DLC content after the break.

DJ Hero was a top game for not just the Flickcast, but for the whole video game industry last year. Not only was it a unique take on the music game genre, it was also one of the two best as it shared that title with Beatles: Rock Band in our Best of 2009 awards. Since we all know how Activision feels about franchising, we knew it was only a matter of time before they were going to announce a sequel. Today, that came to fruition with the announcement of DJ Hero 2.
DJ Hero 2 looks to take the original game’s successful formula and kick it up not one, but two notches. The original DJ Hero featured the newly created turntable controller and a mixer. The sequel will take advantage of the two sided functionality of the mixer and add on a second turntable, helping recreate a more authentic DJing experience. In addition, a microphone will come into play for multiplayer mode (or just a very talented multitasker).
Speaking of mutliplayer, DJ Battles will be added to the game featuring mixes created specifically for the battle mode. Party Play will allow for vocalists to jump in and jump out of songs while singing or rapping along with the current song. Single player has also been revised with the creation of the new Empire Mode. Empire Mood will be a career mode styled upon being a unknown rookie DJ who looks to become the CEO of a major entertainment empire, all through his DJing skills.
